This is absolutely ridiculous.
Who the fuck is the US government to fuck with a Hong Kong based company and arrest non-US citizens for running their business...which is operated OUTSIDE of the US? This type of shit is going to start the next world war. We are straight up fucking with their economy by doing this. Our government is officially NUTS. Might want to start making a list of other countries you would like to live in now.

The problem is going to be that even if the media companies get their way.. I don't think people will forget what they have done. I would sooner hum to myself than buy a song from a company that backed this kind of craziness.

The way megaupload was set up was asking for trouble, not that I condone what the Fucking Bureau of Idiots did. They were fully aware of the copyrighted content they hosted and made every effort to conceal it (e.g not linking to any pages from the index). I wouldn't feel too sorry for the webmasters, they undoubtedly made millions and made a good life on that money.
I think the US authorities have, yet again, stretched the laws to their definition. It's stupid crap like SOPA and takedowns like this which are turning the world against you. We've been privileged so far to have kept a reasonably free internet and the USA has played a big part in keeping it open. Times are changing and more of your legislation is being manipulated by wealthy and corrupt people for their own motives. Amazing to watch the USA move backwards while China is progressing on most fronts. |

Where the fuck is Mr. Green in all of this? Can't he make the fuckheads in Auckland bend to his will?
First the UK, now New Zealand - your countries are straight up bitches and you need to toss your reps into the town square and hang them for treason. |

If so, they can be sued for those movies, no? Despite being a Hong Kong company. |

Depends on how big of a tin foil hat you wanna wear, but I've read conspiracy theorists online saying that this 'anonymous' group is actually the CIA, and them hacking DoJ, Universal, etc is all a planned smokescreen to manipulate public opinion and give the govt more credibility.
1 - govt introduces SOPA/PIPA 2 - the interwebz comes together to protest 3 - govt gets takes down megaupload to show they're in control 4 - 'anonymous' responds to govt by hacking DoJ, Universal, etc 5 - govt uses 'anonymous' hackings as proof to the public they need to clamp down on hackers/piracy/etc Not sure I necessarily believe it, but I can't say that the logic is wrong. |

servers
looks like they got alll of his servers, i would think these guys would put the servers in a country that wouldn't let the us walk in and get them (specially not right in Virgina and D.C. where the FBI can pick up the servers on lunch break)
raiding the Hong Kong servers is pretty surprising. maybe they should stick to the more communist countries like korea and the Russian areas. looks like a good opportunity for someone to start a new one that is based in north korea. "The Megaupload group used more than 1,500 computer servers in Virginia, Washington D.C., France and the Netherlands to host its sites, according to the FBI. " "About 100 officers raided four premises in Hong Kong on Friday including luxury hotel rooms, seizing computer equipment and freezing $42.5 million in financial assets, according to Hong Kong Customs" hxxp://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2089954/Megaupload-founder-Kim-Dotcom-sprang-electronic-locks-Bond-villain-lair-police-swooped.html |
