This. See the way Bing removed all sites with "blackfriday" in their titles or domains and replaced them with their own promotions - and then afterwards when it was too late for those sites to make money, they quietly re-instated them.

If Google had done that all mayhem would have ensued. In my book, Microsoft is still way more evil than Google. And Yandex is owned by Russians and I wouldn't be surprised if they handed search data to Putin whenever he asks. So that leaves us with Google as the least worst option for now.

when people perform a search, they expect search results, whether they're paid or organic. that's clearly different from displaying ads on a content site.

Looks like we're both wrong. They profited $2.7 billion last quarter. Their revenue was over $10 billion in Q4.

It uses Bing and several other sources including its own crawler. Then it uses an algorithm to combine the results to determine rankings.

I thought 2.7 billion sounded pretty weak.

I use DDG all the time. There are many scenarios where I search DDG, can't find what I'm looking for, then try Google and it is the first result.

I still use DDG a lot, but it is mostly useful for the bang searches and features like that.
