Looks like we're both wrong. They profited $2.7 billion last quarter. Their revenue was over $10 billion in Q4.
It uses Bing and several other sources including its own crawler. Then it uses an algorithm to combine the results to determine rankings. |

I thought 2.7 billion sounded pretty weak.
I use DDG all the time. There are many scenarios where I search DDG, can't find what I'm looking for, then try Google and it is the first result. I still use DDG a lot, but it is mostly useful for the bang searches and features like that. |
