Matt Cutts, you are perhaps the most awful hypocrite on the www. You wrote this: "So sites that don’t have much content “above-the-fold” can be affected by this change. If you click on a website and the part of the website you see first either doesn’t have a lot of visible content above-the-fold or dedicates a large fraction of the site’s initial screen real estate to ads, that’s not a very good user experience." You are 100% correct! Now perhaps you could explain why it's acceptable for Google to go ahead with this "not a very good user experience" approach to above-the-fold ads in their own search result pages, but when small businesses do the same they suffer loss of revenues because of your hypocritcal policies? You are starving small websites of the opportuniy to earn revenue while creaming it off yourself. Matt, I don't think Google should be judging any site by a set of critea that they are not prepared to judge their own site by. Slippery slope. Just done a search for "credit cards" on my notebook, I see one search result just on the fold, everything else is ads, when I write everything, I mean just that - everything else above the fold is ads. Something you just stated is a "bad user experience" and worth a penalty? JANUARY 19, 2012 4:15 PM |

Good point d3t0x.
Their logic will be that they are profit seeking public company who's only accountable to the shareholders. Google has proven they don't give a fuck. Must be nice having a monopoly... EDIT: LOL look at this hypocrisy http://screensnapr.com/v/BVgHPn.png EDIT2: For those of you who don't know, here is a cool tool to check your website on multiple browser sizes http://browsersize.googlelabs.com/ |

HA! I just got an email yesterday from Adwords telling me that they'd like for me to put another ad placement on one of my sites.
Suggested placement? (this is complete with a picture of MY site highlighted with where they'd like for me to put it) Top left corner of the content section of the page. Matt Cutts is full of shit. |

There is more and more ads on G search results. Ads on the top of listings, on the top of natural results another bunch of google maps sponsored ads and you dont even see 1 natural result. I wish people will start use different search engines with lower volume of ads

everyone needs to shut the fuck up about google.
we all want to spam google and get #1 ranking because thats EASY. but Google is the best company in the world, which means they have to provide impeccable customer service and value. Google wants to show users good fucking content. Not some shitfuck 250x300 ad blocks as soon as the page is opened. Stop bitching and work toward something that google will like, and provide value. If you have dozens of spammy shit sites than it's your own fault if this is going to make a difference to u |

Best company in the world? Hardly! They have some of the worst customer service I have ever seen. For their google places service they only recently started to have a channel for businesses to communicate with google effectively. They may be too big to fail though, at least anytime soon.

It does show you how siloed Google is. The Adsense crew tells you to put ads above the fold and inline with content, and nags you when you don't max out on ad units. The SQ crew then says "hey, check out our new algorithm that penalizes when you do that."

how do they increase shareholder value? by providing value to customers. simple. if they're search results started sucking ballsack that would mean less people would use them and their profits decrease. |

Eventually something will come along that will eat Google's lunch. There's no more clearer a signal of a behemoth's intent to engage in skullduggery than for it to proclaim it will "do no evil". I would have respected Google more if they simply espoused a "we're a bunch of dicks" corporate policy. |

Google are not trying to give anyone a "better experience" but constantly try to up their profits from Adwords.
Twenty years ago we would have this argument about Microsoft, and Google had the nerve to pretend (and it still does) that it is the opposite of MS, while its actually much more evil. they will fall, maybe not soon, but one day... in the meantime we are all trying to figure out how to outplay them, and often succeed - until the next update that is. |

Unfortunately for now and the foreseeable future Google reigns supreme. Wasn't it Google that demolished Yahoo? The day will come where Google Is just a shell for a better search engine. Kind of like Bing and Yahoo. |

After facebook took their pants off with excellent services, they are scared to death.
From now on there will be google way, or the highway. Take it or leave it. If you want money from internet, you will have to go Google way. It wont be the first thing that they are hypocrites. Want another example? Personal results, promote your search result with +1 and get traffic, and so on. I see parallel course with Microsoft. And sooner or later there will be a new Microsoft, or Google that will take over both of them. PS: I wonder, will they exclude parked domains with this new policy? |
