This is a good point. It makes you wonder what does it matter when the government just does what they want anyways?

While it may be dead for now these kinds of bills have a bad habit of coming up again after the noise dies down. I am sure the movie and music companies are still spending a lot of cash to try and push this through and are not ready to give up just yet.

It will be back. It will have a different name, and contain compromises.
If anything, the state learned not to overreach. Scale down, set a basic framework, and build upon it over the next decade. They will not abandon this legislation.

I'm stoked Ron Wyden got a lot of love today. I've been a big supporter of his since he opposed estamp.
Incase any people doesn't remember the senate actually tried to impose a tax on sending emails back in the late 90s. They were so ignorant they actually thought since emails has the word mail in it, it would be possible to put a tax on a virtual message much like a stamp on a snail mail The only reason it didn't pass is because some experts came in at the 11th hour to let them know it wouldn't be technologically possible to enforce. |

This is likely the next attempt to ram some bad shit through:

Horny kids will always find a way to access porn. Porn magazines and adult stores were around long before the internet.

Holy hell... Already?
Poor bastard must be blackmailed into getting something thru before his present (& obviously final) term is up. Clearly he's going to be voted off the hill with extreme prejudice. Question is now: When this one is close to passing, would another organized blackout day happen? Would it work again? The child-porn tie-in makes me doubt it would happen at all.
