I often ponder this issue too. I'm around 40 now and feel lucky to have 'escaped' the TV-only moron mentality that even my own siblings are stuck in. Sad thing is, obviously, they do all email and most of them even have a facebook profile or something similar; it's just a tool for them to communicate though, somehow not be a place to receive their news.

The first obsticle to overcome here would have to be the comfort factor. Watching/Reading their computer monitor is not as comfy as watching their boob tube from the couch. Perhaps an ipad-like device could help with that but in general they are set in their ways and don't wish to change it. You'd have to offer them something new that really attracts them to change that.

The second obstacle is their preconceived notions about how the world works now. If you've been told that all sheep are black your life and a white sheep strolls through your front yard, the truth is 100% going to evade you. You'll think it wasn't a sheep at first, perhaps a big poodle. Then after you've seen it's hooves and heard it go 'baa' you'd think it's a sheep that someone has bleached or even a government experiement gone wrong... But convincing you that most sheep are white still just isn't possible yet. You need to see huge numbers.

The third obstacle is that they are our elders. They think that on average they're right and we're a bunch of whiny upstarts that know no better. If they weren't blatantly misled by the MSM for generations they'd have every right to think this, too.

What this situation calls for is nothing short of a total-planet Guerilla marketing campaign. One so big that the MSM can't twist the message!

I'm talking about stickers on every light post, flyers in every mailbox, graffitti everywhere, new feats in hacking, celebrity endorsements, skywriting, the whole works... If you can get a compact, efficient, and eye-opening message across to the entire planet this way, attributed to the Youth of the planet, you'd be able to bypass the MSM and give them no target but everyone's own kids as a fallguyn. (Something that every parent can't turn on.)

The message would have to be something special tho; something that says: The Media controls you and all politics. Shun TV and watch the following news sources to learn the truth about your world.

^That sucks of course, and is way too long, but you get the point. Someone needs to craft it better as a call to action.

Then there is the question of where to send them... If they're lib/progressive they should wind up on theyoungturks for sure, perhaps some subset could go to infowars, and others to RT but frankly I don't see any as good introductions to the real world... They all report their own little part of the puzzle and some dubiously of course... What we'd really want to do is install a whole network-type website to compete with CNN first that tells the damn truth for a change and send them to that... Of course there are bigger problems than money for that to happen...

The USGov would likely classify that as some sort of whistleblower organization and send the owners to jail indefinitely with no trial... So I honestly can't say what to do for that part of the puzzle.

Just remember - SC wasn't in the campaign's strategy. Caucus states matter more, and on top of that, even if Newt gains any momentum whatsoever, both he and Santorum are *not on the ballot* for states that total over 500 delegates.

A guerilla marketing campaign like that is a nice idea, but I think it alienates our target demographic. If we start putting that shit everywhere then MSM will report the entire movement as 'vandals' with no respect for public property, it's too easy for the TV to turn them against us like that. We would be appealing to our own 19-28 demographic, not the geezers (present company excluded of course ).

Hacking is actually a very good idea though, but it would have to be very elaborate. I'm just daydreaming here and I know it's cliche and pretty much impossible, but I think it would be incredible if someone could get on to Fox's (or some MSM network) news stream V for Vendetta style and air a short video. Ideally this video would have 2 functions: Clearly and consisely explain why the TV is a source of entertainment and NOT information, and secondly a call to action to LRN 2 INTERNET. There's really no excuse, if you aren't using the internet then you have no idea what's going on. This is of course a plan in the realm of fantasy, I highly doubt our anonymous friends could pull off anything of that magnitude.

Last time I checked the average American watches 4 hours of TV a day. That's a HUGE problem and something needs to be done, we're collectively hypnotized, it's a whole new opiate of the masses.

Anyways, I think some sort of creative hacking would be the most effective way to get in front of these people and say our piece without drawing their ire, our biggest obstacle is when MSM tries to tell them what they saw.

The males I know in that 20-30something range are all coked up/opiated up on videogames and pretty much have been since reaching sexual maturity. They don't watch TV, they don't use the Internet, and they sure give shit all about anything going on in the world.

I can count five males in my immediate social/family circle who are 20 - 30 who have completely dropped out of life. All white, all extremely intelligent, all living at home with their horrified parents (who used attachment parenting techniques made popular in the 60's; you know, "My child is my FRIEND so therefore I can't discipline him.)

These five guys play videogames all the time. When they're not jerking off.

How do you reach an entire generation of youth who simply don't give a flying fuck about ANYTHING?

Unless you create a "GET A FUCKING CLUE" app for their latest handheld toy of choice, you'll never connect with them.

I'm from the Northeast and all the people I'm talking about are in the northern states.

One person of the five losers I mentioned is my wife's aunt's son. The woman has two kids. The daughter is fine, went to college, is about 20 now. Her brother camped his ass out on the couch circa five years ago and is about 27 now and will not work, will not do a damned thing other than play videogames and jerk off. Seriously. Total drop out. Brilliant guy, no known mental disorders, genius level IQ, not autistic or any of that shit. Just. Doesn't. Fucking. Want. to. Deal. With. Life. (The parents are allowing it so they are just as much to blame in my opinion.)

Another guy is the 23/24 year old son of a former IT consultant colleague of mine. Parents are wonderful people, the kid refused to attend even one college course although the parents could easily have afforded it. The kid has been home since he turned 18 and not budged from his fucking room, where he plays videogames constantly and jerks off. That is his life and he has no interest in doing anything else. Also no known health or mental disorders, straight B+ student in high school, gifted in the sciences and maths. He has simply dropped out.

Another one is one of my neighbor's kid. We live in an affluent part of the world and all our neighbors (including us) live on properties in the 2 million to 5 million dollar price range. The kid is about 27. Again, didn't have any interest in college, never moved out of the house, very smart and a nice enough guy. No known mental or physical disorders. Parents Ivy League types but very low key and smart and from what I see very good parents. They have two other children who managed to go to college and leave the nest just fine. The remaining kid just refuses to budge or deal with life. Videogames, jerking off are his life.

Another two of the guys are the sons of my wife's coworker. This is from when my wife worked at a Fortune 500 company on a high powered conventional career track. Woman she worked with and her husband have two sons, twins. Both of them have refused to get any education or get even ONE job and are still at home at the age of 28. No known mental or emotional disorders , both of them very smart and could do just about anything with their lives. The mother doesn't see this situation as odd although to hear the husband tell it, if he cant get the sons to leave before long he is divorcing her ass to get some peace for once.

Income wise these people are all middle to upper middle class except one (the Ivy League parents who live near us - they are wealthy in the 1 million a year income range.) Most of the parents are way too fucking indulgent in even letting these sons stick around and be lazy like this when they have no disorders or disabilities, and my wife has discovered that the mothers in these families are definitely attachment parenting/spoil your kids rotten types. The dads are a mix of more disciplinarian (Although that doesn't work when your wife undoes the discipline) to laid back.

When I say videogames and jerking off is all these guys do, they ARE using the Internet, just for porn. Not for news. Politics will never interest them in the slightest. They don't care about a clean environment or energy efficient cars or anything as long as they have their electronic toys and the ability to download porn when they need a break from videogames.

All of the people mentioned are white, too, for what it's worth.

They all live in areas where there are still plenty of jobs of all kinds, so the recession isn't the problem. It's a mixture of completely disinterested/socially alienated youth and attachment parents that's the problem, as I see it, anyway.
