I've been looking at ways to get paid by clients in USD and get my money in GBP without getting hit with fees and crappy rates. (like banks and paypal)

Just spoke to these guys - they seem pretty competitive:

The way they work is that you open an account with them, then get your client / aff network to wire money to their USD account with your reference. They then exchange it and wire the money to you.

Current fees are $5, with an exchange rate of 1.57 for dollars to pounds, which is better than anyone else I've called. You need a minimum of $1,000 per transaction.

I'm going to do some more research before trusting them with my money, but they're a part of UK Forex Ltd./Oz Forex so not just some dude in his basement

Never heard of them. You should only use a large reputable company for these types of transfers. One of the biggest and most secure is HiFX plc

Not used them myself, but my brother worked for them so I know they are legit.

I'd be very wary of sending money to them but as it is you who is getting the money, the risk isprobably all on the guy who is paying you.

They can't give too much of a better rate though or they'd get into an arbitrage situation where people would just buy at the low rate and sell at the high rate and make a profit from the margin difference.

yah plus I cant recall off the top of my head any internet web site with a Z instead of an S that I entrusted with even a penny of my money

Open a USA account at bank (free). Customers pay you here in us currency.
Open charles swab account (free). Wire money into it as needed (wire fee from bank)
Use charles swab debit card anywhere in the world thru atm. You get local currency where ever u are. They'll pay your atm fees so its free also.
There still maybe a currency exchange fee but its a lot cheaper then most options available.
