Okay guys, first time Bittorent user and it's aggravating the shit out of me.
Is this stuff supposed to be so slow with downloading? It has been downloading for a couple of hours now but only 0,1% has been downloaded yet...time remaining indicates 92 days! What do you guys that are happy Bittorrent users do to get regular download speeds? I downloaded the Bittorrent client from Bittorrent.com and found what i was looking for on TorrentSpy.com and then downloaded that small file when you click on Download torrent from cache.... Help is greatly appreciated as i don't want to download every type of client under the sun to get a normal download speed. THANKS! |

you need to open up the proper ports on your router for it to download properly (if you are connected through a router).
Personally, would uninstall bittorent and use Azureus : Java BitTorrent Client and then follow these instructions to open the ports on your router Port forwarding - AzureusWiki |

Try µTorrent - The Lightweight and Efficient BitTorrent Client before you try Azureus, I've used Az for a while and prefer uTorrent for it's speed. µTorrent Connection Setup Guide uTorrent connection guide.
Yes it can reach amazingly fasts speeds but, it's all dependent on how popular that particular torrent is. If your trying to grab a torrent with only a few seeds, then prepare to wait.

I've actually read that most hosts throttle bit torrent traffic these days. I'm almost positive mine does because when I have any torrent being downloaded/uploaded, my entire connected slows right the fuck down. Turn it off and back up to speed.
Edit: here is a link to the wiki on bit torrent, they mention that there is an encryption some of the clients use to try and prevent ISP throttling. BitTorrent - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

1. Use azureus (Aden linked to it)
2. If you aren't aware, more seeds = faster download (only you shouldn't upload because that's when the feds getcha ). And the bigger the file, the slower, obviously. So if it's a big file look for a ton of seeds.

Pay for a premium rapidshare account, and then you'll never ever to rely on a torrent having a bunch of people on it to download quickly. Obviously someone has to upload the content at least once to RS, but once that's done, it usually stays there until reported (if ever).
So instead of worrying about hoping on a 10 season torrent of Friends.. you can download at your own pace, and you don't have to worry that there aren't going to be any seeders. Gawd, I'm sounding like an infomercial. I just love Rapidshare. I used to be all about the torrents, but dang, it's nice not worrying about seeders who leave a bunch of leechers hanging at 97%.

Just search a warez forum, they put everything on rapidshare.

Or you can google with site:rapidshare.com (work quite well for me). Or more advanced: use google coop to build your own specific se only for rapidshare/megaupload. There are already many websites did this and put on some adsense together with the search result. Don't know how well they perform though. |
