Wait times probably vary between provinces in Canada, seeing as how they have a fair amount of autonomy to manage their own programs.

Regarding Denmark, it is a pretty small country, so that probably had something to do with the wait time to see a specialist.
Quote:
Hospitals-wise, Denmark is organized into five regions. The basic idea is that if you need to go to a hospital, you go to one of the ones your region runs. However, certain kinds of services may be so specialized that they’re not available in all regions, so the regions have reciprocity agreements with each other in which you might get sent to an out-of-region hospital. Denmark is also a pretty small country—a population larger than Minnesota but smaller than Wisconsin—so for some rare treatments you may need to go out of the country, and it’s possible to get the state to pay for that.
Also, sounds like they've taken some steps to deal with wait times:
Quote:
Denmark also has a private hospital sector. Some of what happens in the private hospitals is that they provide specialized care under contract with the regions. In addition, the ruling center-right coalition introduced a law in 2002 saying that citizens may choose to go to a private hospital or clinic “if the waiting time for treatment exceeds two months and the chosen hospital has an agreement with the regions’ association regarding the offer for treatment.” In 2007 they expanded this initiative by reducing the waiting time to one month.

They systematically train people to accept welfare as their way of life. Anyone go to public school in the inner cities? There is no encouragement, they don't even teach addition and subtraction until 1st and 2nd grade.

When I moved to a suburb, I had no idea what half the stuff they were teaching in my new school was. My older school hadn't even taught anyone how to read a clock face, let alone multiplication or division. I saw school papers from a friend in kindergarten with that "advanced math" and couldn't believe they were taught all that so early.

It is drilled into your head from the beginning that it's a rigged game, you cannot succeed, you have to have connections to get anywhere in life, otherwise you are doomed to dead end jobs, if you are one of the lucky ones. They teach you that that's what your "realistic" plans should be. Don't shoot to high.

It's not surprising at all to me. The tax system alone is enough to discourage you. It's hard moving up from lower class to middle, to upper middle, and beyond. The cost of mobility between tax brackets (if you make just $1 beyond your current tax bracket) are:
Moving from 10% to 15%: $ 425.15
Moving from 15% to 25%: $ 7,350.10
Moving from 25% to 28%: $ 14,783.03
Moving from 28% to 33%: $ 34,144.05
Moving from 33% to 35%: $ 75,150.52

How does that not discourage someone who's growing a business? It really sucks when just making a few extra dollars costs you thousands of dollars, especially when it catches you off guard.

Every step of the way, government discourages us from self-reliance and independence. We have to pay a self-employment tax on top of other taxes just for working for ourselves. How is that even justifiable?

It's no wonder so many people just say "fuck it" and give up. It's also no wonder that most don't even try. Every single prime time television block is filled with get rich quick shows that teach people further that the only path to success if pure dumb luck. Ask anyone off the street what trial and error is, and they will either think its some kind of court, or some new law drama on a cable network.

After all that, the most successful self-made people in public are demonized for their success. If you worked for everything you have, starting from nothing, you are the bad guy. If you inherited your money and did nothing for it (and have the XX chromosome), you are celebrated. Just don't go do something stupid, like building upon that inheritance with anything beyond a reality tv show.
It is my understanding that moving up a tax bracket means you only pay the higher percentage on the amount over the limit. It is like this in the UK, I'd be very surprised if it was different in the US. Am I wrong?

Edit: Accordint to Deliguy I am wrong. What a load of BS!

No...

Lets use play numbers

Tax Bracket 1 = $0-$10
Tax Bracket 2 = $10-$20

If I make $15, I pay $10 @ Tax Bracket 1 and $5 at Tax Bracket 2.

You'll never make less money because you've moved into a new tax bracket.

ITT: People learnin' bout them tax brackets.

Shit, people. That was the first thing I looked up a few years when I realized I was finally making a significant jump.

For a forum full of people that supposedly make money, there's a lot of people here that aren't very well-read on it.

Things won't always be perfect but we've weathered all the bad shit over the past 5 years quite well compared to any other country and hopefully that will continue.

Exactly. But that doesn't make it any less pathetic that people don't even read up on things that directly effect their financial situation.

Was just an observation. Nothing more.

A few years ago I started reading so much on it, I eventually realized the more I knew, the more I didn't know.

That's when I got a good accountant. The good thing is that I can speak to him at least semi-intelligently (as opposed to before, which would have consisted of little more than grunts and clicks).

Some things:
  • Mississippi doesn't have a minimum wage
  • Estimating the $60k family's health insurance at $16.5k, ascribing it to Medicaid benefits, and counting it as part of the "disposable income" of the minimum wage family is... dubious
  • Section 8 is pretty hard to get (years-long waiting lists)
  • SSI (mentioned, though not part of the calculation) is also hard to get (most people are rejected at the first hearing)

You're right, my bad. It's interesting that so many states have minimum wages lower than the federal minimum though.

Welfare is what we pay the poor to not kill us.

Once we take that option away we leave them no more options. Don't act like someone who is starving and can't feed their family wont risk their life in a last attempt to live.

But...they don't. The federal law is the bare minimum. There are states that have additional minimums but no state can go under the minimum $7.25 per hour.

Unless its for service industry people, which is another racket entirely so I'll just leave that one alone.

As apposed to getting a job washing dishes in a restaurant? I don't think the entire carpet should be pulled from underneath them in 1 shot, but rather phased out.

Too much bureaucracy to ever phase anything out. It'd have to be done in one shot if it's going to get done at all. Also there aren't that many jobs in the ghetto because no one in their right mind wants to put a business there.

Would you be ok with that?
I live in what some people call a developing country. I went in for an allergy test a couple of months ago. One of those tests where they put a matrix of potential allergans on your back and then measure the reactions. I already had an appointment at the hospital to see a foot specialist so I asked for an appointment at the allergist around the same time. I had to wait a little when I got there because it was pretty busy, so the doctor saw me 30 minutes late. But the test was done quickly and after another 30 minutes to allow time for skin reactions the doc examined it and gave me a run down of things I am allergic to. Total cost was US$20 - that is total without any insurance. This was at a public hospital so it was cheaper than the private hospitals here. I could have walked into a private hospital with no appiontment and had it done in plush surroundings while sipping a Starbucks from the lobby, but I was at the public hospital already.

Point of the story? None really, just trolling.

So that's why you have something called "wait list insurance" where you can buy insurance in case you have to leave the country for surgery due to the wait time being too long.

Canada’s wait list insurance phenomenon | The Medical Travel Site

Wait times are so bad that they have spawned a market for insurance.

There is insurance for all types of shit that you don't need insurance for. Hardly useful for your argument.

It's not *my* argument. It's a problem that is large enough that it spawned a new industry niche. The fact that the market brought forward a solution is a much stronger point than a couple of individuals' opinions on a forum.

Do you know any real welfare stats or are you just acting out like a child?

What percentage of the population is on welfare because of health reasons that are no fault of their own freak accident, freak disease etc ?

How long is the average person on welfare?

What percentage of people that come off welfare, stay off welfare?

What percentage of welfare people end up generating more taxes because they were guided through a job finding process and provided with clothes for an interview, tools etc.

My ex is a welfare case worker with the provincial government of Ontario. I know some serious shit about how it works here in Canada. It seems you are just stereotyping them into fat lazy drug users looking for handouts. Everybody gets handouts in life, some bigger than others sure, but everybody get some handouts.

I used to meet her for lunch and have been inside of the office many times. It's not just a bank teller handing out shit. They have a huge computer lab that is usually stocked full of people looking for jobs. Sure a few people surfing Facebook but they probably don't have internet at home and still have friends so that's understandable.

She dealt mostly with people who were new to welfare but were in the process of applying for a permanent disability program that pays roughly double what welfare does. 90% of people did not get approved. These are seriously fucking sick people. You had to get a doctor to fill out a 10 page document saying could never work again. If you found a doctor, and if the office approved your application, then it gets sent to Toronto where some committee votes on it roughly 6-9 months later.

If you got denied for super welfare you get hounded every month until you find a job. She would set up meetings for them at places that were willing to hire pretty much anybody. She was like a super headhunter for welfare people. If they didn’t go to the meetings or were deemed not actively trying to get a job they were suspended from the program. People got suspended like crazy every month. The first of the month is like Boxing Day at Best Buy at the welfare office. Everybody gets suspended and they all come in to find out why, some get back on, some don’t.

People will make bad decisions and end up not being able to pay the rent. Bad decisions are the foundation of our economy. Fast food, electronics, fucking everything. I bought a $200 kitchen knife the other day because I like to cook and chop shit like a samurai. My brother is a retard and thinks he can beat the casino at slot machines. He makes bad decisions all the fucking time. If people didn’t make bad decisions we’d have no affiliate networks because they wouldn’t have any offers aside from car insurance.
The welfare percentage isn’t growing exponentially and every country has people on welfare. Why are you getting mad a constant that you can’t change? While you’re at it you might as well get pissed at gravity.
There isn’t room on this planet for everybody to live comfy, so who cares what the fuck they do as long as they’re not burning down our comfy houses.

Governments spend billions on shit that is way more stupid than welfare. So accept that this is how it is and remember that for every 60 seconds you spend being a raging teenage faggot I’m spending 60 seconds accepting the world and laughing at how dumb you are.

Alternatively you can raise an army and kill everybody you think is different. Good luck bro.

The only reason you should pity them is for being dumb enough to put all their eggs in one basket. Anyone who relies on a single source of retirement income isn't too bright. But hey, that's exactly the kind of mentality a welfare state perpetuates. Don't need to plan for my future, someone else has it taken care of.

Which country is that ? I have in mine like 5-6 groups of similar tests divided by vegetables, animals, fruits etc groups of allergens costing like $40 total. Also just one component of allergy costs like $5-$20, depends.

Done via blood, results after 3-4 days for package, 1-2 days for one component. All without any "wait".

P.S. If you need to wait for a doctor your country is more fucked up than 3rd world one.

C'mon Sherlock! It's about misappropriations of funds and priorities.

Taxes should be going to infrastructure and education, not to nearly 50% of the state's residents to buy food while they milk their unemployment for 60 weeks. A state that doesn't even have an income tax BTW...

With all due respect. Stick to eurofaggotry.
Europe isn't "broke" you numbskull, its a diverse continent with 30+ countries. Germany for instance, which applies much of the unspecified "eurofagottry" that you refer to (presumed to be welfare state, employment rights for workers, free/cheap education, free/subsidised healthcare) is the world's second biggest exporter and is booming. The middle class have comfortable lives, unlike the US where millions cant even get hospital treatment and live off foodstamps.

Germany has the economic strengths America once boasted - latimes.com

Some countries in Europe are totally fucked from overspending and corruption, e.g. greece, but everyone in those countries has access to basic services. but some regions of the US are like a 3rd world country with no safety net for the poor who are shut out of society "because theyre lazy and want handouts".

I love the propaganda about how the poor are supposedly living lives of luxury on welfare, "taken care of" by the state.

LOL, everyone wants to bring up the only rich regions in whole continents as examples... I could do the same, my town has a median family income over $130K, doesn't mean that what works here works everywhere.

Most people on welfare are lazy, because most people are lazy...

Most people who don't even think they're lazy are too deluded to know that they're lazy.

I've seen it, I had roommates who were on it, I even had one try and give me his card once his student loan money (it was the difference from FAFSA: $5,000 from uncle sam) came in because "you shouldn't have to pay for food".

Handouts neuter the psyche and dull the spirit. And if you like living in your middle class utopia somewhere, congrats.

Me? I like the idea of seeing a Ferrari every morning and wiggling my toes in the sand.

If you want to live and die like a lemming so be it.

Never be a minion.

By "Rich Regions" you mean Germany? Population 80 million?

Your town isn't an independent country.

Oh, I guess you didn't get the memo. I was ignoring you because Germany is a stupid example. Your per capita GDP is lower than the USA's and you're nearly four times smaller in population. Not to mention you have a lower Human Development Index... Hurr durr

Per Capita GDP:
Germany: $37,935
United States: $48,147

Don't even get us started on some WWII jokes.

THE USA is #4 in HDI as well as the most populous and largest in area on the list and the only one out of the top 7 that doesn't tax you into the next century.

Ever wonder why people come here? Because the American consumer moves the world, by the way...

FUCK SOCCER.
