It should not be a surprise that a lot of young people are ignorant about history and current events. Along those lines, I came across this today...
First, I chuckled. Then, I remembered this is the next generation of voters. How can they possibly think critically about SOPA, NDAA, drone wars, monetary policy, economics, etc. when they know so little? Amazing.

They did a similar interview a few years ago.
All they did was interview a bunch of people and stitch it up so that everybody look stupid. Things are not as bad as it seem. Guy is pretty much just trolling the school. I'm pretty sure half of them that were interviewed actually answered all the questions. The next generation is actually much smarter than previous ones. |

You are an optimist....
My son graduated last spring and yes a very large percentage of the kids are that clueless. The simple things they do not know never ceased to amaze me when talking to them. I am sure that most of them will grow up to be productive adults but their lack of basic knowledge about our country and the world is pretty scary...... Quote:

The data here is unsurprising. One of the interesting details (to me, anyway) is the dropoff in knowledge of issues (i.e trade deficit) and the uptick in knowledge of personalities (i.e. Nancy Pelosi). Again, it's unsurprising given how folks gravitate toward drama. Ask 'em to explain how the Fed monetizes debt, and the repercussions of it doing so, and you'll get blank stares. But ask 'em about Newt, Pelosi, or the Red-Blue bullshit, and we're off to the races. Sad. ![]()

these are some un interested lazy kids. the result of living a very comfortable lives, which is not too bad (prefer to live in a war zone?)
I don't think this is a long life trend, I just think kids today take more time being kids, even into their early adulthood, very self centered and focused on things that like, some of these kids will develop their minds in 10 years and others, well, they will go to the mall. |

I feel like you guys believe that everyone of an older generation was/is really smart. Most likely people growing up in the 20s/30s/40s/50s/60s/70s/80s/90s had just as high a percentage of "dumb" people. There just wasn't youtube to show everyone.
Want proof? Bush elected...TWICE Obama Elected. Romney leading Rep. Polls SANTORUM JUST WON TWO STATES? - - WTFFFFFFF? Ron Paul is completely ignored by older generations because his ideas are "crazy". that said...There are a lot of dumb people today, and there is also a lot of very smart people too, and a lot of average people. |

Standard psychology, people forget things if they're asked about them on camera. Same reason people don't know the answer to obvious questions on things like who wants to be a millionaire. Combine that with heavy editing, and you've got some linkbait.
Example: Derren Brown Hypnotizes People On A Train! - Learn NLP Hypnosis - Video (while he adds a little mind trickery in to that to get a higher hit-rate, the principle is still the same.) |
