1. If the issue is new members posting stupid fucking spam 1st threads touting their shitty websites than make a limit on posts before they can start a new thread just like the PM limit of 5 posts

2. You gotta admit it's kind of fun posting to the banhammer thread so this new rule would decrease these opportunities

You would think with all of our experience in forum spam we would be able to stop it better. Shit just got hardcore that last month or so though so I am guessing we pissed someone off.

It's not just the new topic spam though that is what we are seeing the most. I have seen TONS of in thread spams recently. The bots just post in threads that no one checks out anymore. The design BST was overrun with them last week when I checked it out. So the simple solution of no new topics with 0 posts wouldn't affect these guys.

My best guess is some new addons and updates are needed. Better captcha's, updates, a 'working' one click ban. Problem is I bet no one is at the helm (ftp wise) and we are on cruise control.

Geez.. this forum is free of cost for you people and the mods don't get anything for doing this job either.

All in all, the place is pretty clean. .hack is marketing his efforts better than other mods, but all of us are working on the spam shit every day.

So we get a wave of automated spam, and then we get a wave of "stop the spaaaaam" whiners that could be automated as well, for all it is worth.

For the forum updates, etc, Jon is the person to go to, but I could well understand if he does shit all about it, as the whole place is coming out of his pockets anyway.

Nobody has said that mods didn't do their jobs.

Quite the contrary, this is a big board, there's a lot to moderate, and most of you do a fine job.

We just need MORE mods who are here from different time zones. Additionally, the vBulletin settings here need to be updated.

I was a moderator for several years on one of the larger domaining forums, so I'm speaking from my own experience. We didn't get hit with Xrumer spam because we had a Moderation Queue for ALL new members. We had to go through and manually approve or reject every new member's first thread. It's a time-consuming task, especially when you're not paid for it.
