Anyone here ever invested in a YouTube Project? Returns could be big

Just wondering,

As we see people like Macklemore blow up, it's obvious it's all b/c of a 'system'... a system I'm now well familiar with. Labels are even using YouTube to make people 'fake' a viral movement.

None the less, a very different revenue stream from what most are used to..... have any of you ever considered investing in a Youtube project / entertainer?

Those new media companies are giving deals of like $5-$8 CPM rates with many.. some get past $10.........and these guys do anywhere from 500,000 to 3 million views.... do the math.... the investors of Macklemore & Trinidad James are laughing at the 'stupid' return they made.

Macklemore "Thrift Shop" generated approximately $1MM-$1.5Million off Youtube ads total.

"Cant Hold Us" did probably about $200k-$250k ........... 15%-20% of this money went to the media company behind them.. 80% went to Macklemore and his investor(s).... i'm sure they probably took 20%-30% of that split/80%


Considering thrift shop was probably a $5k-$6k video shoot.. would you ever invest in an aritst who's got buzz for revenue split? ?

I have paperwork from 2 YouTube media companies and know a few partners.

Believe what you choose.

This is rating his videos at $5CPM.. it could even be higher.

The mobile views inflation plays a part in going with the lower quote. It's obviously not perfect but it's a close round-about I would suggest.

^ far less US traffic.. a higher percentage of non-paid mobile views

Yeah not a bad idea for an internet marketing project.
Create an international chart topping hit record and a professionally produced music video.
Sounds viable.

You're failing to account for the fact that literally tens of thousands of people are trying to "make it" on Youtube the same way Psy, Macklemore, or Rebecca Black did and the vast, vast majority of them fail. So, sure, it might cost you $5,000 to make a video but there's no guarantee that your video will go viral, there's no guarantee that millions of people will flock to you.

Its possible op, I mean it wouldn't be the first time a top 10 was made with nothing more than a handheld camcorder and produced with a cracked copy of pro tools/fruity loops but it's still a lot of time, investment, and risk. I think a better investment would be funny videos since you can easily hire a few $50 actors and be done in 30 minutes. You also get broader appeal since music is kind of a personal preference while anyone can laugh at a guy farting on strangers.

Macklemore isn't a very good example to use for your strategy, either. He spent years investing his time in developing a reputation and a loyal grassroots following.

He was already a name to the local hip hop community in the Northwest. A lot of his success was calculated more than it was luck.

There is no guarantee that there is God, people still pray! Your argument is invalid.

The dude has a point there. Using Macklemore as an example probably wasn't the best idea. I know a bunch of artists who do covers of the latest songs and make a living out of it. They're not great artists.. average to above average, yes! But what they do know, is how to brand and market their version of the music and thats what matters!

agreed, probably was not the best example and rather hard to size particular earnings BUT obviously my drift, there's a profit to be had from your investment.

Their CPMs are high and brands are paying to have you do guerilla ads as well per video.

That's why youtubers are introducing or mentioning product ( digital / physical ) before or at end of videos.......... product placements are paid.
