grinsystem has a spectacular aura about
Ubuntu Linux, I use to be a slackware user, and then got married. I have to spend time with my wife, instead of fiddling with stuff like adding middle mouse roller to the X.org install.
Leopard Runs on my PC, with stability issues with my setup. Mileage will vare from setup to setup. Someone in a earlier post said you can't use updates, but that isn't true anymore. Applying an EFI patch(which needs a system somewhat close to an actual mac hardware, ex: intel motherboard p33-p35 type, core duo processor), and if Im correct a you can use vanilla(non-changed) kernel. Otherwise, your going to be installing each update manually a bit different.
Its just of matter if you know your hardware and be ready for some major headaches. Plus, it use to be a lot worse, with technical knowhow, but oddly Leopard was probably the most easiest Mac OSX to install to date.
For headaches for me For example, I can't run Open Office. That really makes work harder for me.

Linux (Gentoo > *). I haven't booted into Windows in years.. no problems with Linux, but will switch to OS X exclusively in a heartbeat when I could afford to.

Vista, with some osx and cygwin thrown in, for development purposes. All my development software runs fine and has zero issues so far with some pretty old legacy hardware !

I run Leopard & Vista on my new MacBook, XP on my old laptop, XP on my desktop, and CentOS Linux on my 2 web servers. Vista runs pretty nicely on the MacBook, considering that I had 4GB RAM and the fastest processor they're offering.

Only con about Vista on a MacBook is the missing ability to "tap" the touchpad in order to click. It works in Leopard, and apparently another set of drivers enables this for Linux on MacBooks, but no fix for XP or Vista yet.

I find that ubuntu packages of the suckless.org stuff are usually broken. Just download the tarballs; make; make install. And don't forget libixp (from their site as well).

for those having issued with vista, try Readyboost. Basically you plug in a 2gig or 4gig USB drive and vista will use it as a very fast caching system.

Makes a HUGE difference in performance !

I use XP and Linux. I do not care for Vista. Maybe once there is enough drivers out there I would be happy with it. But as of now I don't want it around me!! I th it was major mess up for windows to release Vista so soon.

get a cheap flash drive or SDHC card (2 - 4 GB) and use the readyboost feature (you can search google on how to do it)

Using vista and loving it... perfect stability, speed, everything just WORKS, seriously.. dont believe all the bs spread about vista, its a solid OS. OSX doesn't really offer me any benefits other than a huge price tag and a sleek box, plus I like to play games.

Tried redhat, mandrake (back when it was called mandrake), gentoo and had enough of it when I couldn't get drivers for my ATI graphics card or my tv tuner card.

I use centOS on my dedicated server and it does a damn good job, thats where linux belongs!

On a side note, can anybody actually state reasons WHY vista is crap? I would seriously like to know what everyone thinks... Just about all anybody can come up with so far is DRM, and yeah that was all a lot of hype.. it doesn't effect anybody at all.

I am on Windows SP2. I heard a news that Microsoft is going to stop License sale of Windows Xp on 27th or 29th January 2008. And they'll stop the support for Windows Xp in the end of this year (2008). All this coz of Vista's Luke Warm response in the Market.

XP, only cause I haven't figured out how to get my installation of OSX86 working on my computer. I hate windows (except that its best for cutting your margins by getting freely available warez!)

for that reason, i don't think the Aesthetics and flexibility of OSX and Linux (lets admit, its sexy too!)

My heart is a mac user though.

fuck i can't believe i am wasting more time at this forum posting in this thread......ahhh!

I chose Windows XP. The poll should have allowed multiple options. I work with both a Windows XP PC and a Windows Vista PC.

tempest has a spectacular aura about
1. ubuntu on 2 home pcs and my last lappy
2. ubuntu at work, but that box is being confiscated (our network admin just realized I was running linux when management could not monitor my calls). Been running it about 8 months. Perhaps he should spend more time learning his craft, his MS certification in Microsoft word does not seem to be doing him justice.

OSX Tiger...prolly wont migrate to Leopard b/c of instability and lack of app compatibility. Plus it's just an aesthetic wet dream for soccer moms.

A friend of mine has Vista, and good god I haven't seen a bigger piece of shit. Straight outta the box her cursor is jumping around randomly....prebugged OSes are so much fun.
