lmao, as usual, more sarcastic responses than real ones.

Anyone here had success running Leopard on a PC?
And is Linux user friendly yet? Ive tried it a few times (most recent was 3 years ago) and its still harder than shit to use.

I love Vista, but I hate dealing with instability and spyware/viruses. I like the ease of use, and I like my programs...

Anyone switched over and like the results? (Of either Leopard or Linux)

The Ubuntu core is quite user friendly, it has a graphical installer and a graphical package manager + a lot of the features are from windows anyway. Kubuntu uses KDE which is pretty much the Windows equivalent of a linux GUI, if you want hard go for a Gentoo stage 1 install

Well it depends on what you want to install, most of the apps are available through the graphical single click installer, but for anything obscure that you are looking for require compiling through the console, but it's easily done if it has no dependencies, and most programs are in the ubuntu repositories if you are using ubuntu so no problems there

I'm happy with XP at the minute.

I like the idea of being super kool l33t hacker thing and playing with Linux / Ubuntu etc, but i can't justify it. I'm lightweight when it comes to Apps.

Are there any advantages?

Not really if you like simplicity... At least not for a long term windows user... I've tried it a few times, and while its fun to do new things, its tougher than shit to get used to.

If you know it, im sure its better, as most people that have Linux down, can make everything work how they want. But for most of us, it wouldn't be really any better, aside from the stability, and the extremely limited amount of spyware/virus penetration...

Linux vs. Windows is kind of like sex with a Guatemalan whore.

You can bareback it (Windows), and its quicker, a bit easier, and more enjoyable up front.

Or, you can play it safe (Linux), take the time to put the rubber on right, get used to the feeling, and let it all pay off later when you can sleep knowing you wont have leakage in the morning.

Haha..

I use WinXp with Linux running in a Virtual Machine.

As for the command shell power, Linux is unbeatable. It is every programmers wet dream come true.

I mean, take a seperated file, grab only lines with specific values, sort them into columns, output it into a file and into a different file all while having sex with YOUR mom..that's Linux.

i follow the insturction of this site. OSx86 Project | InsanelyMac Not all PC can run MAC OS, you will need to check if you hardware is compatible. I got it installed and running in a custom built machine but i took it off cause i am going to buy a mac book soon. I am not sure if it is stable cause i didn't really use it.

Windows XP on the desktop, Linux on the server side (dedicated server).

Brahaha, exactly.

I spent 2 frigging weeks trying to get a wireless card to work that was then found out to be completely unworkable (no drivers, windows wrapper didn't work, etc..) bought a new card, everythign worked out of the box.
Never touched ubuntu since.

For programming power in the shell / server side, Linux is great. As a desktop, give me XP.

Windows user for 15+ years . . .

OS X now - best of both worlds (linux/windows) but without the windows BS that gets in the way of what you are doing.

OS X runs pretty much any Linux command line stuff out of the box. A good portion of the linux "windowed" applications like GIMP, OpenOffice, etc, will run on OS X.

My decision was purely personal. I like spending my time on tasks directly necessary to complete my work, not tasks that need to be completed before I get to think about my work.

I found that OS X gets out of the way in a way that Windows never did and Linux hasn't mustered yet.

YMMV.

Wow... So I just got done setting up Ubuntu, and wow... When you enable the advanced graphical settings and shit... This thing is pretty sweet!

Not nearly as tough as the old distros I tried were...

I like...
I think Ill keep this dual boot setup for quite some time!

Oh, and all my hardware works flawlessly right out of the box! EVERYTHING except my fingerprint reader, and Im sure there is a way to get it to work, I just havent tried yet.

Sweeeeeet

The only thing I dont like is just a few small things, like the mouse isnt sensitive enough, even though I increased it. Backspace doesnt use the Back button in Firefox.

And the caps key is a bit slow for some reason? Ive always had this bad habit since I was a kid, I hit the caps key for uppercase letters, as opposed to shift.
Caps- K - Caps
Never been able to break it, but it lags a second, so just writing this post I Had (see right there) to backspace a few times to get it right, or type slower.

Aside from that, this thing is great.

Windows XP on the PC. Have you guys been watching the new "MAC vs. PC" Commercial? Hit the nail on the head exactly with Vista users. The are actually upgrading back to XP which is a more familiar [stable] OS

Switched to OS X last year, and haven't looked back. Been using Windows 2000 for 5 years before that.

Vista Ultimate, I had Linux for a while, but switched back to Windows for business since I ran in to problems where I didn't know how to do things.

OS X. I used windows for 10 years. Once I tried OS X, I never turned my XP box on again.

The best way to describe it, is once you've tweaked it to your tastes, it's like an extension of your body. It lets me get my work done without thinking about what I need to do to get my work done.

It's heady shit.
