Cool Starwood Card

After reading past posts about credit cards I decided to change to Amex Starwood card for all my online expenses. I'm pretty excited about it as the hotel rewards are amazing compared to other credit cards.

Anyone else using this card? how is it working out for you?

Yeah, I was using it for quite a while for all of my PPC expenses. Many of the Starwood properties are excellent, plus you get bonus miles if you transfer the points to airlines. So 20,000 Starwood points gets you 25,000 miles (free ticket within US) on almost any airline.

I am using a cashback card now, since I already have a ton of point saved up.

Keep in mind, points are not really currency - Starwood can significantly depreciate them whenever they want.

Starwood ROCKS.

I just took my friends up to a nice hotel overlooking Niagara Falls (in Canada) with it last night. I got there and gave them my card and they said "Because of your Starwood status blah-blah we're upgrading you to a king room with a Falls View (which only the top 3 stories of the hotel have)."

Sounds like a sweet card... too bad we don't have this kind of stuff here in Israel.
We only got the plain old CC. No cash backs or stuff like that so right now I just spend a shit load of money and get a ton of worthless points for "gifts" and other crap like that ;/

I'm hoping to get approved for the Virgin Atlantic Card, $100,000 gets you about 100,000 miles which is enough for a round trip in upper class, which seems to be the best deal you can get in the UK. I would so love to be able to get the Starwood card, can't beat the flexibility, plus you only need to spend $80,000 to get 100,000 miles :x

I use the Amex Blue Cash card where I get like....1% cash back and then 3-5% once I spend more than $7,000 or something like that. Thats what it said when I signed up anyways. I also use a Visa from United and have gotten 2 or 3 free flights from that in the past 2 years. One flight that I used it for this summer was going to cost me $450+ if I paid for it.

I was looking at that card but i didnt like how you had to wait until you spent more than 6500$ for the card to be better than average

has anyone gotten this cash back ? The Amex agreement I read before signing up said the cash back was capped, as in you stop getting it beyond a certain limit and that limit was pretty fucking low. ?

We do have it, I think - depends on what your needs are.

Check out דף הבית - אמריקן אקספרס ישראל

Beyond that, we don't really have that many Credit Cards like Americans have Credit Cards - i.e. there are very few cards here that allow you to carry a balance (which I don't recommend, but can be very helpful if you have a business in a cash flow crunch).

cheers

Yeah.. they have the "Blue Card" but its pretty much crap..
It's a 0.3% cash back and its limited up to 1000 NIS back (around 250 bucks).

Supernova,

When you first started using Starwood toward PPC expenses did you have any problem getting the $1k+ per day in spending approved? I have AMEX cash back cards that frequently decline my PPC bids. That sh*t pisses me off b/c on the phone AMEX always claims they never decline large charges but when I actually try putting them through, they almost alway decline til I call them. That's a pain when it stops your ads every time.

Any problems w/ that on the Starwood?

I have to call them once for every Amex I get and that's it.

Make sure you ALWAYS check for Cash and Points availability when booking with SPG. For example the Diplomat in Miami was $440 this weekend, but $90 + 4000 points.

Just one more nice thing about AMEX is the fact that if you lose your card, they ship out a new card to be delivered by the next day. I just put in the call now at 2pm EST and they said that it should arrive no later than 7pm tomorrow. Not bad, eh? All the other credit card companies take at least a week+ to get me a new card.
