Finally.. a semi-Summer movie that looks like it's going to fucking pwn!
The Dark Knight is the next chapter in the new Batman Begins saga. Heath Ledger is playing Joker, and just from the trailer, his makeup and character looks fucking brilliant. He seriously reminds me of a serial killer lunatic type, but with a Hannibal Lecter edge (although nowhere near as graceful and terrifying). This puts all of those other lame Batman movies to shame... finally. The Dark Knight Trailers are here: thedarkknight.warnerbros.com The Dark Knight Film Posters: (they looks awesome!) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I definitely like this series better than the movie series from the 80's. Less "cartoonish" and more focused on the dark psychology of the main characters.
Frank Miller really took the comics genre one notch higher when he took over Marvel's Daredevil title in the late 70s. Comics haven't been the same since. In a way, he just extended Stan Lee's innovations in the genre--originally, comic book heroes were 'perfect'. This made them quite shallow and increasingly hard to identify with. Come the 1960's, Stan Lee introduced the "hero with angst" concept--almost all his characters had a "tragic flaw". This made them more "real". They became "heroes" which people living in a stressed out modern culture could identify with. Frank Miller takes this "cult of identification" one step further--he delves into modern psychology (with all its conflicts and stresses) and comes up with a new definition of "hero." This reinvention of longstanding "hero" franchises also extends to the James Bond franchise. Daniel Craig's version of Bond marks a clean and dramatic break from Roger Moore, T Dalton, and Pierce Brosnan's version.

I still can't get over heath ledger as the joker, it's not a role I ever would have imagined him in. When I saw the preview I could barely recognize him, or his voice.

i was skeptical about him also, before i saw the trailer. when i saw the darker more deranged spin that they put on the character, it all made sense. jack nicholson's joker was great: zany and homicidal. this interpretation looks much darker and more violent. he looks completely psychotic. |

I automatically doomed this movie in my mind when I found out the villain was being played by Heath Ledger. I just find it hard to take him seriously after all man-on-man shit he did in Brokeback.
However, after watching the trailer all skepticism has been erased from my mind. Previously gay or not, he looks like he is going to turn out to be a bad ass joker. Topping Jack will be hard but from the clips I've seen he definitely has potential. Can't wait. A movie that might actually be worth paying to see :o |
