Orly Off The Wall Question

Could Internet users sue the RIAA for punitive small claim damages for ruining their web experiences for which they pay a monthly fee for?
What would happen if say the digg crowd, who obviously is very anti riaa all started filing small claims against them?
I'm just curious and bored

lol!

I have absolutely no idea, but I would love to see it!!

All technicalities and legalities aside, I think its an awesome idea, and I hate the RIAA.

I think it would be funny more than anything... I can see the headlines now...

"This morning, 489,345 small claims suits were filed in US courts nationwide against the Recording Industry Association of America"

hahaha

Apparently the RIAA is so busy suing consumers that they forgot to hire a decent programmer. With a simple SQL injection, all their propaganda has been successfully wiped from the site.

did you read this article on consumerist: Small Claims Court: Suing Big Companies In Small Claims Court Is Fun And Easy

I wish I would have known that it only takes a smooth $25 to cause such a big headache for companies. The article says that companies aren't allowed to use their own lawyers in small claims court, which is even better. It would be much easier for them to just part with $2k right from the start than to have to pay for a plane ticket, hotel, etc. to get a representative to the small claims.

lol i love the update at the bottom that shows a link to one of the sections on the site where the form input is ?table=. What'd they hire programmers from a local junior high? I don't know anyone stupid enough to make that security mistake.

I know plenty, all of them small government sites like libraries, small towns, etc...

However, what would you base the claim on? "Ruining the web experience" by doing what?

How about slander and defamation of character.

Just because you are sharing a file does not mean you are doing anything illegal.

But by making the blanket statement that those who share files are committing illegal acts is slander. Guilty until proven innocent?

Who knows if it would stand up in court...
