I thought people read John Chow's blog because he's incredibly good looking.

One thing I did notice about the "make money" blog genre (it literally is a genre!) is that they tend to just regurgitate what each other blogs about. Nothing wrong with that but it would be nice to see some fresh research every now and then. Most of the time it's just a rehash of stuff talked about at Ars technica, mashable, or tech crunch.

I personally like John Chow's blog because he blogs primarily about the "lifestyle" of making money online but yeah, I also see where you're coming from, Jon. The most annoying thing about JC is not his blog per se but the SWARM of "me too" make money blogs that his blog inspired. All much much shallower than the original. Seems like a metablogging race to the bottom.

No time? But he claims he works only 1 hour a day on affiliate marketing, so he should have all the time in the world!

If you pay attention it's funny how when one of them blog about something and say they use off the wall word or term, you will see it used in the re-reporting of that news by their minions.

Well...maybe not that funny

Being good at Affiliate Marketing is like winning the lottery.

As long as you don't tell anyone how much you make everything is fine & you can go about your business. As soon as you start telling people then you better start running. Because sooner or later it'll all catch up on you.

That's exactly why I try to post helpful tutorials & methods instead of blowing my own trumpet, because at the end of the day would I rather find out how to get some fucking links to my Affiliate Websites or read about how much money someone else makes doing Reviewme Reviews?

The OA has a spectacular aura about
Gotta love the common sense in this place.

But really tho...each person's way of marketing to specific audiences (nooB, super nooB or recycled nooB) does have a very workable profit model.

Are we discussing them because we don't believe they have high ethics or morals?

I always though 'business' and ethics' should never be used in the same context together.

Here is my personal opinion in a more general sense. I was lamenting on this the other day. I started affiliate marketing like 19-20 months ago. The past year was awesome. I really dropped out of reviewing any forums, blogs and the rest for the past 6 months or so. I have just recently tried to get back into things and see what is up, and the answer is pretty much not anything.

I was just thinking the other day there is no real place for real affiliate marketers who actually have experience and success and are not interested in talking crap to go and hang out. No offense Jon, your forums here have some value and I have gotten value from them, but the signal-to-noise ratio and newbie-to-experience ratio is as out of whack as any place else.

Someone else touched on it, and I think a lot of it is people are secretive as a lot of things that potentially work are hard-earned and not free. So to give them away to others is not wise. Beyond that though, I have come to the conclusion that most people are full of crap and/or talk a bigger game than they play. I won't bash Shoemoney, because some of his postings 20+ months ago are what lead me to investigate the Affiliate route after struggling with other avenues of development. It did not take me long to learn though, that even though he was the proclaimed God of Ringtones, he really did not know that much. I found a lot of stuff he said after I learned what I was doing to be funny and realized how limited his actual knowledge and testing had gone. But I don't fault him for that, that is simply him trying to hype himself and what he said he actually believed. He just did not know any better.

So as I rededicate myself and realize how much more money there is out there for me to take, my only regret is no place to share good information with other people of a similar ilk. I learned a lot when coming up through Digital Point, and I owe that community a ton. Same here at Wicked Fire, but for the most part I am beyond the discussions that are going on here and need to find a level where I can both learn and share. The problem is the depth of knowledge is fairly shallow across the board. It does not take long once the light bulb goes off to have gone way past what the general discussions are in the public space.

If you want to see how Fucked up the Affiliate Marketing Community is, look at some of the for sale published tools out there. SpeedPPC, LPGEN, Xtreme Conversion and several others. They all have those ridiculous sales pages and they are selling to affiliate marketers. They also all love making videos. I find it insane. What other industry has so much contempt for its own participants? B2B selling usually involves a bit more sophistication and acceptance of shared knowledge. Not affiliate marketing though, people catering to affiliate marketers treat us like we are the biggest fish in the water, and I suspect, for the most part, we are. It is the same reason why these bloggers are able to be succesful.

The bulk of the affiliate marketing landscape is made up of people who are looking to get rich quick. The bloggers, software publishers and the rest are all taking advantage of these people like they are staring at a late night infomercial trying to get out of a dead end job.

Considering the amount of money my BUSINESS made last year, I should consider it insulting. Instead I will view it for what it is. A huge freaking opportunity for me to make more money, because there are not that many competitiors out there, there are not that many players. Most people are only looking for a short-cut and have no idea what they are doing. If they are infringing on your market, it is likey dumb-luck. I have to admit my only adversary in making more and more money this past year were the search engines. They always found new ways to mess me up. The competition? The other marketers out there? I can't think of one instance where they impacted me in any significant way.

So for those of you out there who actually know what you are doing... Cherish it. All the noise and fishing for the get rich quick customers is allowing us to operate in a protective bubble. It is only good for us in the long run.

Awesome points made in the last post Jon,

I hate John chow because most of his blog posts are filled up what he had for dinner & partying with friends (photos) & shit like that. Not to forget that crap of guessing the bill contest. LOL

ShoemonKey(also a mod on DP) is another big asshole, that just blogs shit & always trying to push other affiliate networks with affiliate links and link bait's (we all know the recent SEO thingy with John Sullivan coming to his show & all the crap that happened).

Now since I have not followed this super affiliate guru, cannot comment on him (btw we both share the same 1st name). LOL

@ I_like_cock - Really priceless photoshop work.. haha...
