LOL Swifty, I had learnt this lesson long-long ago when I posted some kick-ass names on a forum and someone registered them before I came back after a pee! Boy, was I pissed?

THAT would have pissed me off. I've found a few good URLs the last few days, but haven't the cash at the moment to buy them all up. I'm keeping a tight lip! No one knows what they are.

Word to those who have not been lucky enough to learn this lesson through experience.
Every forum, every thread, every post has its lurkers. Its important that people know when planning to buy a domain, not to reveal it anywhere, to any group of people. Regardless of how excited, and in-the-moment, you might be. If you really need the assurance that its a good investment, before buying the domain, find someone that you trust (that you Trust) and ask them what they think. Or, just get set up w/ Moniker and taste that sucker first, then ask.

Heck - don't you even had be careful of which registrar you check them at ? I've seen stories of registrars that put temp holds on the domains even when people are checking them.

And don't forget to haggle! Sometimes you get a LOT better pricing just because you asked for it. I wouldn't say more but someone will take the hint and profit from it. =)

Use Moniker.com and you will never have this issue. You are referring to front-running by Network Solutions and I make a point to never use them.

I've been picking up quite a few co.uks recently, mostly as throw-aways as only £1.15 for a couple of years. Was surprised to find movieplots and filmplots.co.uk both available and also got the last 4 L-N.co.uks - pretty shit, but gotta be worth a quid each.

Nice name.

I learned the hard way to keep up to date on the email address on the whois of a domain. I had two really nice iTLDs a while back, only to see them accidentally expire and get picked up by someone else. D'oh!
