Cool Anyone else betting big on Visa's earnings report today?

Visa will be announcing their earnings after the bell today... anyone else anxiously looking forward to that news? I've got a lot of faith in Visa so I've tripled my investment in them since I initially bought in.

I don't play the stock market.

If I did I would buy CocaCola seeing as how I single handedly supply the company with about 50% of their gross revenue for Diet Coke.

Whatever happened to "Revolution Credit"? They were a huge fucking company's effort to get into Credit Cards with a web promotion and web banking approach. Maybe AOL I think? Would be interested to "refind" that info...

Anyways I like to follow stocks out of interest - the Visa news should be fun to look at - but I'm too concerned about the American economy to lay any chips on the table.

I've been watching the stock since the IPO. I have heard that Visa faces some legal issues, do you know anything about them?

I'm not sure a credit card company is the best bet in the middle of a credit crunch and going into a recession.

That said, I don't keep track of VISA. I just know that some of the big supermarket-style banks are seriously considering dumping or cutting back their credit card divisions, since it's a tough business and we're kind of at a bad point in the cycle.

Credit card delinquencies are showing signs of increasing, which I'm guessing would not be good for Visa. But in a near-duopoly, I guess they'll do well in any market.

Visa is a transaction processor. They don't issue credit.

But, yeah ive been in it from the start. Its my biggest stock, I threw a shitload of cash at it.

Its going to PAY Big, shit it already has.

Watch after hours trading after the financials, I bet it hits 80.

If the news is good, it'll do better than that, barring major profit-taking

Yes, but they'll still feel the pain of reduced credit issuance and reduced consumer spending on credit. Both of those factors directly influence transaction volume.

Good brand, huge market share, I'm sure they'll be fine, but they're too big to hide from industry-wide trends. If their management is strong, they can manage through it and keep their margins up, but who knows. They're just way too young as a public company to really have a good feel for.

Congrats on the short-term gains though, that's always a great feeling.

ooh, down 5+% in after hours trading.

Options would be a better way to bet on earnings reports, in my opinion, but I haven't gotten them enabled for my brokerage account yet.

Looks like its down to 71

We'll have to see how tomorrow goes

But either way i'm in it long term. So not going to sell off anytime soon.

They met analyst expectations at the high end, which looks good, except operating expenses were also up to the tune of 39% and management guidance was conservative. It looks like a lot of people baked in expectations for them to beat the street.

I'm sure it will be a good long-term hold barring any majorly negative litigation outcomes, but this looks like at least a mild case of investor euphoria. There haven't been many successful IPOs in the last year, especially from name brand companies so it seems like V drew a huge following out of the gate. Maybe rightfully so in the long run, but there is definitely a lot of speculative pressure on it right now.

Yes. But with the current rise in energy related inflation I think a lot of people will buy less and buy more often (gas, groceries).

And whether they buy with Visa or a Visa transaction-controlled debit card, that means less spending but more transactions. And transactions is what we care about here.

I just hope the big boys keep pushing the stock down all night !!
