ITALIA has a spectacular aura about
Italy beats Australia.

Italy won. Yay.

Thoughts on the game? It's a huge dichotomy as to the penalty given. I'd give Italy the benefit of the doubt in the game since they had better statistics overall (bar possession, but is understandable due to Italy being a man down), the red card on Materazzi was too harsh though.

10. TOTTI Francesco (95+' PEN)

- That's all that counts.

Very harsh on Australia to go out to a last minute penalty but Italy's class and experience showed through overall.

Tough call but hard to argue with... wasn't all that controversial I think

hard for it to be a no-call that isolated in the penalty area

Inexperienced Australian defender + experience Italian = pk.

That was a helluva dive, but the defender put himself in that position. Idiotic to go to the ground in that instance. Socceroos (best name ever) should have buried italy much early. They waited until the last 10 minutes to go to 2 strikers and push the match.

The game was a load of crap, Australia should won, we played better the whole way through, and then they got that shoddy penalty kick.

No kidding. I've never seen so much flopping in my life, it's pathetic. I seriously hope Italy gets their asses kicked next round.

Hey, I'm from the US, you guys only managed a tie against us (despite the US finishing with 9).

Unfortunately I think Italy has a pretty solid chance of making it to the semi-finals. I'm betting they'll lose there, against Germany or Argentina.

I reckon that it wasn't a sending off, and it wasn't a penalty.

Unlucky Australia - but great defending Italy wth only 10 men.

As England & Italy are both playing like dog shite - it wouldn't surprize me if they meet in the final - is that possible?

rembrandt is just really nice
I think Australia gave Italy a very good challenge considering Italy is rated 13th in the world and Australia I think about 43rd. The Aussies should be proud to get to the eliminations. I think Italy are a much stronger side in attacking but all in all I think the game could have gone either way. Just in case anyone things I'm bagging the Italians.. I'm not.. My parents are Italian but I was born he in Sydney so that makes me an Aussie. Now I'm going for Italy for the rest of the World Cup.

That's it mate! ITALIA!

Blood is thicker than water eh? I wouldn't take World Rankings into account at the moment though, they'll be changed after the World Cup accordingly to how teams have performed through out.
