Si - the curfew was only in the old city and only around the areas which have a history of communal riots. It was just an attempt to make sure that Muslims and Hindus don't go out banging each other's heads.

I finally got a chance to talk to all my friends and thankfully all are ok. However one of my friends had a really close escape as she was in the same market where the blast took place.

Good to hear that mate. I was on the outskirts of london when the 7/7 shit happened, remember what it was like not being able to contact friends in central london.

Have relations between Hindu and Muslim communities been comparatively good in Jaipur? If so, I really hope this doesn't change that.

Here, elements of the media have used situations like this to encourage hatred against Muslims (& previously the Irish), dividing communities and driving more people towards extremist views... on both sides. It's a bit more volatile in your part of the world (thanks - at least in part - to the empire-building malarkey of my ancestors), this could cause a lot of shit if the sheeple don't see the difference between bombs and burkhas.... I hope Rupert Murdoch doesn't own any popular papers on TV channels in Jaipur or India.

Actually Rupert Murdoch does own Star News -- although a Minority as Indian Government doesn't allow majority FDI in news channels.

Though were minor riots between Muslims and Hindus in Jaipur about a decade ago but that was it. The good part is that most extremist muslim population is segregated (by choice) in particular parts of the city. So whenever there is a chance that there can be communal tensions, police moves into those areas and turns it into a fortress.

For example, the day before I saw like 100 policemen over al 2.5 Kilometer stretch in one muslim area which comes between my gym and my home. And they moved into the area within 20 minutes of the blasts.

I am glad that we have BJP and CM Vasundhara Raje in power who are not afraid to move in and take action unlike the terrorist loving congress which is, unfortunately, in power in the central government who only think about minority votes.

Overall, the media has acted decently.

Good to hear the media isn't stirring things up, hope the action they take isn't like that taken in Gaza and elsewhere, collective punishment etc.

This got me reading up on the whole situation in the Indian subcontinent - not straightforward is it? I'm sure Bush & co would've preferred to keep their pocket dictator, but the new government in Pakistan seems to be a move in the right direction.

Hope to get over that way sometime soon-ish, despite this shit and the extreme poverty in places I can't wait to travel around India - looks like a beautiful part of the world.
