I don't see what's so sad about it (apart from the car wreck). Most people never get to do what he did in their lives, let alone for 10 years.

My guess is he'll come back. He's a pretty resourceful guy it sounds like and knows how to make money. He'll make money again and then you can all read his book

Maybe I'm a cynical bastard, but I can totally see him calling an old friend in the news business to get an article printed about himself during this pending lawsuit, to help with goodwill and try to get this lady off his back.

I actually met this guy once.
He owned the strip club next to a bar I worked in during my Schoolies.
He was a bit of a wanker at first, but seemed ok.

I really don't get how people can waste money like that...
I like to enjoy myself, but I know this stuff can't last, so I live as modestly as I can, and am putting the rest away for a rainy day. And at least if that rainy day doesn't come, I can have some fun, and use the rest of it for good things, like pissing off my inevitable grandchildren by giving it all to a charity... for dogs... that are incontinent...

Reminds me of Mike Tyson. If you don't know anything about money, or how to take care of it, the people you hire to take care of it for you are probably going to exploit that. I don't find the story sad at all. He learned his lesson, and he should have been smart enough to set some aside.
