Alright,

I am 17 years old and I was interested in getting a Paypal account. Well I got one, I verified it, and all that - even though I am under the age of 18 and technically am not allowed on the site.

Today I received $1500 from a company I was working with and went to transfer it to my bank account. My limit is $500 unless I add my social security number. Alright, no problem. I go to add it and it says it's wrong. Uh, no it's not. I enter it again and it still says it's wrong.

So I get on the phone with these people from India and they say that I have to send in a drivers license or something that says my DOB. So what do I do here? I don't have a drivers license yet and I don't want my $1500 locked by Paypal.

What do I do?

Your mistake was trying to take it all out at once. Just take $500 out every month until it's all out, or send it to someone else and have them take it out for you.

You might have screwed yourself by calling them. Did they lock the account or can you still take $500 out? If you can still take the $500 out, do it now and just deal with the fact that you will have to wait a few months to get the rest.

If they locked the account, you're screwed. You're not 18 and PayPal clearly states in their ToS that you must be 18 to use the service.

And yes, they will keep your money.

Oh... and yes, your SSN was wrong. You can tell what year a person was born by their social, so when you put it in, you basically told PayPal you were 17... that's why it wasn't accepted.

No, they never locked my account. My account wasn't changed at all.
I have transferred $500 to my bank account, and will try to figure out something to get the other $1000 out of there.
I guess I'll just opt into receive checks instead.

Fuck Paypal.

or just do it in stages man. Your problem though is when you DO verify and if some peon over there notices that you have been a member for xx months but just turned 18.

Get your money out and watch out for a few months after you verify things (when you are old enough)

Buy a high ticket item on ebay and resell it only accepting a money order. You may lose $100 and some time doing this, but I have personally been screwed by paypal and would not risk a grand.

Or setup another payment account with a service that DOES allow minors, and just transfer your money into that in one way or another... donation buttons or something.

Yea I had to deal with this a few years ago when I lost my license, I just bought a TV off ebay for $900 and resold it a week later for $950 through a money order. Problem solved

I think it is stupid that they have the rule in place when the majority of places on websites allow people under 18. I'm sure a majority of people here had their Paypal account before they were 18, if they were into internet marketing before then.

Regardless of whether or not they allow minors on a website, it isn't the best thing to do when you deceive a company that ultimately holds your money. You are asking for trouble when you knowingly break the rules. but since you already have done so, doing what jelf mentioned and buying something is your best route to recoup your otherwise lost money.

I have had a paypal account since I was 13 (19 now) and never had a problem with paypal till I sold a wii to a 15 year old. And his account got locked for being underage they transfered the money from my account back to his account. Luckly he sent the wii back but paypal told him it would take 6 months before he could take his money out.

Paypal sucks dick they take so fuckin long to do anything. I was 17 and took out 2 grand in a week and didn't have a problem ethier I guess they changed it.
