Have you guys ever got scarred of maybe what the future holds? I almost find myself nervous for the next 10-20 years. Is internet marketing still going to be around? Are we still going to be able to support ourselves and families doing this type of job? Is E-mail Marketing, and Search Engine Marketing still going to be a way to generate revenue?
What does the future hold for affiliate marketing? Or Internet Marketing for that matter? Do you picture a decline, or even more profits in the future? I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, since I always do, but perhaps a few of you actually have some valid input. |

It will evolve. But as long as people want to buy things, there will be people to sell things.
Online is no different. And for reference, even believing that I'm one nervous mother fucker. Guess I better work hard now so I have time to adapt later.

Each day, month, year things change we will adapt as we do now computers will become more accessible PDAs are starting to be the craze 10 to 20 years from now you'll do nothing without a computer from a car to your house it will be all computerized, therefore giving us more applications to advertise on. so I see it only getting better there will be more competition but equally more applications and products that you can advertise on/with.
And that's how I really feel ![]() Or maybe I'm just a wishful thinker lol -Maze |

Quick note
A while back I saw a special on future cars and they spoke about the windshield being a computer/TV screen. while the car was moving the windows would be blacked out because it would be doing such speeds and able to drive so closely to other cars that it would scare the drivers. |

People will always buy shit. It's just the avenues of marketing will change. Or if you wanted to be more secure, build a more sustainable business or get into the product development part of things.
But if you're a good advertiser then you just need to apply the skills to the avenue.

There is no doubt that a real
window of opportunity exist right now. I am neither a student of history nor and expert on the subject; my personal feeling is that IM as it stands can be likened o the hold rush or to the first expansion into the new world.

as technology matures and larger enterprises become more savvy, they will seek to close this window and monopolize every opportunity. The smart among us will realize that the only constant is change and adapt quickly.

plenty of money was made on diminishing gold mines. in fact people make money today on mines that have been empty for a century.
I would suggest that internet marketing isn't what makes your fortune; its the ability to see an opportunity and go for it.

I'd really like to see a world like Shirow's Ghost in the Shell, but I doubt it'll happen all that quickly or easily.
As for the market, I think market gaps will shrink as most of what we do gets automated by intelligent agents and people overseeing those agents in hours, and the IMers with a hand in the black hat development will be the only ones still making a living as freelancers. As it is, a LOT of the internet is being junked up by what IMers do. Seriously, it's getting hard to find good information on Google nowadays, because of all the marketing crap. Even when you know how to use Google properly (with colons and inverted commas) you still get a lot of crap. I've actually gone back to using the YellowPages for business, and for information, I'll go to Wikipedia or LexusNexus first now (depending on level of depth I'm after). But I don't worry... I can always get back into events management, and I'm hoping my art gets to the point that people will want to buy it. I used to do ok (just) from selling stock photos as well.

Everything evolves - when I first working in the media/print industry it would cost you around $30 to make one type correction on a page - now its expected as part of the service. I can't remember who made the quote, but it goes something like, "If everyone is searching for Gold - its a good time to be in the Pick and Shovel industry"
Things change, the principles the same I would be more concerned if there was a world to do business in because if all this Global warming stuff is true. You can't eat money

Didn't they make an entire car out of marijuana in Cheech & Chong's first movie?
That'd be way less energy intensive than carbon fibre, and it's also recyclable when it comes time to upgrade!

There is something new a coming!!
Read this: Grids are one of the most important and fastest growing internet applications. Grids provide the possibility to share and bring together appliances and information. Grids are, for example, used to collect and process vast amounts of security data in international banks, to make huge data files available for fast downloads and to utilise computer capacity for various scientific and commercial activities. In this way, the capacity of computing, data storage and measuring instruments can be combined in applications that were unthinkable until now. WTF does it matter if affiliate marketing is still around? Tech will always allow those with an innovative spirit to earn vast sums at the expense of others. What are you, 20? PS - Do your own fucking market research. (Yea, you didn't think anyone noticed, did you?)

Nothing against 20 year olds. Everything against guys who act interested in your opinion for no reason other than to trend their own marketplace for free.
Classic case of "coffee is for closers".

People with both technical and commercial skills are rare. That's nothing to do with the Internet; it's just the way people are. If you have both and are motivated to work hard and think for yourself, you will always make money.
The only constant is change. If you sit on your arse and just collect on what you've done already, you'll eventually go broke. If you keep working at it, you're ahead of 99.9% of the general populace, and unless you are very unlucky, you will still make a great living. People are getting more, not less obsessed with buying shit, and that means the market is getting bigger. And we are nowhere near feeling the effects of all those folks in India and China with their newfound credit cards. If I really wanted to be sure of a future in IM, I'd learn Mandarin. |
