My fiancee and I moved into a new place in early July. Today we got back from work around 4:30, as I had a day off from the "normal" job I work, so I just spend my days off in my fiancee's company's office. We just went to IKEA to get a new bed base and some other stuff a few days ago, and just had the box leaning against the wall next to the door.
When I walked in today the bed frame box had fallen over, and the tins we keep the coins in were moved around. Having grown up in BC, I went "shit, an earthquake?" then realised "no you fucking retard, you live in Australia now... shit did we get robbed?" Yeah. We did. It was pretty fucking weird though. My fiancee and I walked around the house, and they didn't take anything, really: the x-box was still there, the speaker system, my external hard drive, the TV, DVDs, digital cameras, broken DVD player, etc. It was all fucking there. They even left the bourbon sitting on the counter. Unfortunately, what they did take sucked ass: the gold and diamond bracelet my fiancee gave me for Christmas which I almost never forget to put on was gone, and my fiancee had a Tag Heuer watch stolen. So I called the cops while my fiancee called the real estate agent, who had the owner call us. The cops came by, spoke to us, said another house on the street was recently broken into too, went through the place, etc. We mentioned in passing that we had a Foxtel guy (cable/satellite provider) come to install it for us on Wednesday. They did their report, said some guys would come by tomorrow for fingerprints and stuff, and left. About 5 minutes later they came by again and went "hey tell us about that Foxtel guy". It turns out the other house on our street that had been robbed a few days earlier also had a Foxtel guy come in a few days earlier, and the descriptions matched. So yeah, that pretty much sucked ass. tl;dr: we got robbed, Foxtel installer did it. |

People still wear Tag Heuer watches? Fuckin Australia.
Jk, sorry for your troubles... am I correct in assuming that they arrested this Foxtel guy?

renters insurance or home owners insurance? I keep meaning to put my wife's engagement and wedding band ($15K+) on the home home owner's insurance, but I guess I've just been lazy. But I really need to get on it, especially hearing the horror stories like this one.
Sorry man, that must suck!!! Well, look at the bright side, means you need to work harder on affiliates to make up for the stolen goods :-)

You didn't get robbed -- robbed is when they point a gun to your head and grab all your shit.
You got burgularize. Sucks but at least you didn't have a violent confrontions. It was probably some petty crimminals. I recommend some high security door locks - like a schlage. And a STRONG WOODEN DOOR with metal frames. And secure your windows and hide your valuable shit better. (For example, hiding your gold in the bottom of a kitty litter bag -- who would look there? Or hide the gold inside an old radio...) Read How TO Be Invisible by J J LUna if you're interested in these kind of shit. |

Shit. That sucks. I can't imagine what I would do if I came home to that. I live in an old house with a big backyard pretty secluded from the street. Since it's so old, we don't have modern windows or anything. My parents are dumbshits about that. We don't even lock our doors. All someone has to do is walk inside and all our shit is gone...

Ach, ze Amerrrrikans unt zere gun fixxxation!
I believe the correct word is: burgled, as in 'to burgle', although a burglar could burglarise your house, or burglarize it in America. Interesting they didn't want the electronics; confirms what I've heard elsewhere - they want cash and jewelry. Just have the fewest, cheapest second-hand goods you need, I say, so if trouble comes your tears will be fewer; store up your real treasure in Heaven, as it says in the Bible. I've had tools stolen, my neighbour's been confidence-tricked twice recently, I helped catch a robber some months ago, sooooo ...... The moral of the story is .... The more stuff there is, the more there is to steal. It's hard, but don't waste time and energy seething about it. Keep an eye on whoever calls, don't let them in if you're not expecting them, have good locks on your back door, double-glazed windows, and nothing worth stealing in the house.

Haha thanks for the replies guys.
Funnily enough all the coins they took were sitting in metal jars so the guy from the cops came back and is now trying to get fingerprints off them. They haven't arrested the Foxtel guy, they don't really have any evidence other than the fact that the guy was at both places that were robbed. Either way, we're getting contents insurance, and I'm definitely not attention whoring. If I were attention whoring I'd talk about how I made $10 000 today off green tea offers (I wish). |

A friend of mine's sister and brother in law woke up one night to their two dobermans barking. He went downstairs and found a man flat up agianst the dining room wall with the two dogs sitting in front of him. He said to the guy I'm calling the cops, you probably shouldn't move.

LOL yeah i know, it's a New England Firearms Pardner 12ga... made in China. Go figure.
Shoots just fine and I've only ALMOST had to aim it once. Glad I didn't because it turns out the guys with shaved heads and black jackets outside my door were paramedics.

Man, that sucks balls.
I've had friends with the exact same problem, only it was Optus installation for them. Those dodgy fucks act as spotters for their mates while they do the install, and only take the good shit that's easy to carry and fence. I'm told AAMI and RAC(state) insurance companies are generally pretty good in replacing jewelry, but it's not the same, especially if it'd an heirloom or something. And all you guys advocating guns, firearm offences are about the most serious crime you can commit here. They add to jail time substantially, and self defence is not a valid reason for use unless it's being used to "meet equal or superior force". My home defence is a 38kg dog with a mouth large enough to fit my fist in. Cable TV & Internet, from Telstra, the owner of pretty much all wired telco infrastructure in this country.
