I have a site which looks pretty crap , normal sales letter dtuff etc which converts to around 1 hosting referal a day.

I am thinking of fixing it up, adding some fancy graphics etc but Im worried it might put people off as most of the big boys with lots of $$$ still build crap sites. Do you find crap designs tent to get more people to sign up

well, in certain niches crap designs do get people clicking more - be it ads or simple links. Just make sure there are as few exit points off your site as possible. And that those that have to be there are monetised in some way ("parthian shot" strategy)

if I learned anything from the shoemoney mess a few days ago looking at many of his sites, I spend to much time making things look pretty cause if that is what he is making a living on crap over nice is the way to go.

maverick, no you may not! remember that is against the rules, i don't think if you know who I am talking about however finding one of his sites would be hard. (If you know how to use the internet.) The rule is a good one, it is not cool to "out" someones sites.

I was also wondering about this, I spend hours upon hours making a site clean and crispy, if it converts the same as an ugly site i'm def wasting my time.

shit it is not just shoemoney.com, I went to some other sites of his, they were hacked as well, funny though the 2 sites were on different servers, he has a mess on his hands!

Xrproto, simple looks good, no clutter etc. this is 1996 design with the most god awful colors etc.
