great article, but the traditional advertising model is still far worse than the current model (even if it's flawed)

click fraud is essentially lowering profit margins for all the advertisers involved but contextual and search advertising is still far more effective than placing an ad in a newspaper

if law enforcement and technology cannot control the click fraud in places like New Dheli then Google will simply block any ads from showing to visitors from that region

and I wonder how the SEs are going to fight those companies overseas that do this shit. We can't seem to do too much about spammers in Eastern European countries so i wonder how pay-to-read scammers are going to be tackled.

here is the thing. the world needs people to work for $300 a year so you can make $300 an hour, every hour of every day of the year! be thankful that there are people who will work for that! otherwise there would be more people competing with you and maybe not making anything but diluting the market non the less!

This is pretty simple economics actually. Whenever there is money involved, people will find ways to exploit the easiest, most efficient way of earning it, regardless of the "legality" of their chosen methods.

And remember, $300 US per year in some foreign countries makes you middle class or better...

I agree with Stanley. If the problem becomes big enough, you will simply have everyone blocking traffic from places where all the fraud comes from and can't be dealt with directly.

Clickfraud's been around forever. There will be newer technologies, after this latest version of the Internet Bubble, that would minimize this threat. If anything, mainstream ad systems could learn a thing or two from the online Porn industry. Xpics and other systems paid out a lot of $ for clicks back in the day, they imploded, now the industry uses Pay per signup and other models. Also the processors got smarter with their scrub lists.

Fuck the upper class. I don't care how much money i end up making in my lifetime I will never become one of them. I grew up in a VERY poor family with a single mom. There are scummy and lazy poor people just like there are scummy and lazy rich people. Makes no difference to me, but that lady in the article was a single parent and I have nothing but respect for her. When you're stuck in a situation like that there isn't a lot of jobs that will pay you well and allow you to take care of your kids at home. So you all can laugh at 300/year and say she's stupid, but thats probably the difference between her kids getting to eat and going to bed hungry.

We're all sitting here on our $3,000+ computers making fun of a dumb poor lady that works her ass off for scraps. Meanwhile theres people in our own towns that are mixing flower and water for their kids to swollow so their stomachs won't ache when their trying to go to sleep at night. Its the internet so theres no point in me talking shit and i really mean no offense to you guys but if any of you or anyone else ever said a statement like that to me in real life i'd kick their fuckin ass.
