Lately I've been having trouble waking up in the morning. One time I nearly fell asleep in the shower: I found myself leaning against the wall, and then my knees buckled because I was going in and out of sleep. I nearly busted my ass but grabbed the shower curtain instead and ripped it down instead of falling.
Some people drink coffee or Red Bull, some pop Adderall or smoke fat blunts. What do you do that gets you ready for the day? How about after nights where you only get a few hours of sleep: do you do something special for those occasions? I need to figure out something that works, asap. |

Every night I fall asleep with all her wonderfulness in my arms. And in the morning when the warm sun rises up and peeks through the blinds just after my alarm clock rings I roll over to my side and look at her lay so gently in all her peaceful glory and then grab her and proceed to beat myself off with my mouth fleshlight. So ya, my fleshlight gets me up in the morning.

I've had the same problem for some time now - I started setting a second alarm 10 minutes earlier than my main alarm, wake up, pop a NoDoz caffeine pill, fall asleep, wakeup again 10 minutes later.
I'm a night owl, but I also can't sleep in until 11 am anymore. I live off of 4-5 hours of sleep which is not enough for me. I am trying out taking 10 minute power naps (google it) and use pzizz.com for it. So far it seems to work on easing my sleep debt, but I've only been doing to for a week or so.

James, some people just aren't morning people.
I take aaaages to wake up... But then I can go all night. It's pretty rare for me to feel tired before 2am. It's all about what your circadian rhythm is up to. Good news is that you can sorta reset it. Stay up for 48 hours or more, and then hit the sack at a time that gives you about 12 hours before your nominated wake up time.

Money is my motivation. But for the hard short nights, I prepare strong coffee or an energy drink right by my bedside. Wake up to music and sit there and sip on it for a minute.

I normally take ages (took, reason for that later) to wake up 3-4 cups of coffee, etc.
Just got myself an Axbo alarm clock. Thing wakes you up at the best time (sleep phase measurement through movement tracking). Basically, you give it the time that is the LAST possible moment you want to wake up. It chekcs the half hour before, and when you are close to waking anyway, it gives you the final push (alarm sound) to wake you. Finally, if you are just too deep under, it will wake you at the time you entered, like any alarm would. My experience so far: - Takes a while to get used to the idea and to trust the thing. - It really feels like waking up on your own, some mornings, I did not realize the thing is waking me the first few seconds. - You still need to get out of bed, but I am literally awake after a minute, not after an hour of being out of bed. - It will not help you sleep less. If you don't get enough sleep, you don't get enough sleep and you'll still be tired. (Still easier in the morning, tho) All in all, the fucker is expensive, but worth it. Here is the info (non-affiliated, to show you this is not just a sales pitch) aXbo Schlafphasenwecker ::emp:: |

I will change my clock to a random time, then set the alarm a few hours/minutes ahead (however long I allocate to sleeping).
When the alarm goes off, I try to figure out the real time by doing the math. Something about having to do that wakes me up. Except on Fridays. On Fridays, the Happy Truck wakes me up. |

1. I hate being tired, so I get at least 7 hours of sleep.
2. I don't look at it as a burden to get up early in the morning, I enjoy it. The morning is my favorite part of the day, so I really don't have any problems getting up. Also, my productivity is much better at 5am than it is at 5pm. I used to be a late sleeper 3-4 years ago. One thing that helped me was I tried to gradually change the time I went to bed. I would aim for 10 minutes earlier every night, and after awhile I had no problem getting to bed at 9:30 or 10pm, and waking up with enough energy to last me through the day. Also, if at all possible try to wake up to the sunlight. Have some blinds on your window that allows the sun to creep in as it rises. Waking up to the sunlight can give you a nice burst of energy in the morning. When you wake up in pitch darkness your body doesn't really want to get up because it still thinks it is night out. |

If your getting so little sleep that you are falling asleep standing up then you need to get more sleep not wake up faster, and I hope you stay off the roads like that.
When I wake up I drag my ass to the shower and lay down in it for like 15-20 mins. Trying to rest and still not fall asleep. After that I make a pot of black tea (can't do coffee) and I just drink green/black tea like all day. The caffeine is low enough your not going to crash like coffee so its like a constant buzz level. Work less and sleep more man you will be more productive rested anyway. Your getting close to the law of diminishing returns. |

I have a hell of a time waking up some days... especially if I've smoked a lot of weed...
one thing that helps me is exercise... do some yoga when you wake up... it'll help get your blood moving... here's some simple yoga exercises that I do every day... those exercises only take a few minutes to do, so it's not a huge time killer...

Suck my unit.

I'm a night owl as well, I can stay up till 6am and then sleep till 2ish, however I hate sleeping the day away, so usually I try for 6 hours of sleep and then wake up to a morning doobie and then some starbucks, quad shot of espresso...I also put my alarm clock on the complete other side of the room, that way I have to actually get out of bed and walk across the room which tends to get me moving since the first thing I think about is, how much money did I make since i went to sleep, that motivates me to wake up...

I'm surprised no one mentioned the best energy giver in the world: fresh fruit.
I'm not talking about what our LPs say. No pill is as effective as fresh fruit. Try eating more fresh food instead of burgers and fries. Instead of a chocolate bar, go for a nice piece of fruit. You will notice a considerable energy pump in only 10 minutes. It will last for hours, and it will result in you needing less sleep also. If your body doesn't get enough nutrition through food, it will try to replenish itself with sleep. That's why you can't wake up properly. Needless to say that you can't avoid food by sleeping longer. This is the single most effective way you can wake up your body. You will also need less sleep because your body gets what it needs. Our bodies weren't made to consume artificial additives; these do appear like an easy solution but they will never replace natural food. Just give it a try and you'll see what I mean. |

Drink about 6 glasses of water an hour before you go to bed.
You'll definitely get up eventually. the funny thing is, the hydration helps you sleep better and the urge to pee comes on gradually which wakes you up gradually which makes it easier to actually get out of bed. Also, find out how much sleep you actually NEED and get that much. I used to be constantly groggy on 8-9 hours. I switched down in 10 minute intervals until I found out that 6.5 is actually optimal for me. You might just be getting too much sleep. |

I assure you it isn't that I get too much sleep haha. During the week I'll go on a string of 3 hours of sleep per night Mon-Fri. I try to get 6-7 hours a night, but the amount of shit I have to do just doesn't allow me to do that. It also takes me 2 hours to get going in the morning. If I need to be somewhere at 7:30, I need to wake up at 5:30 else I'll be late as fuck.
