Password protected or Locked? Delete the ~whatever.tmp file (backup both first!) and it will likely kick the file back out. Else, load up ultimate boot CD and make a copy of the file.

More detail would be helpful...

Also, R. click on My computer, click on Manage, the on Shared folders, Sessions. See if it's open there and kill it.

There are free file utilities you can download that unlock files but the easiest way is to shut down any process that is locking the file (if you uploaded the docx file to a webpage then close your browser and reopen).

Or just restart your PC.

P.S. is that pic home grown?

Lol, I always tell folks to reboot a minimum of 4 times!

i was writing an english paper at my friends house, and then emailed the file over to my house, when i tried to open the file and edit the doc. it says the doc is locked.

Simple solution is have your buddy close the doc on his PC and reemail the file.

You owe him a 6-pack BTW!

If you emailed it while open, Word07 has an issue with lockfiles, so if he closes it, then re-emails it..... Do the fucking math.

how does this work, the program runs in the background (taskbar) and you open your MS doc?... i tried this now, doesnt work. Still locked.
