Question Freelance Stories & Tips

For my culminating activity in English, I'm doing a report and presentation on starting an online business as a freelancer. The focus of the project is on freelance designers but I'd like to broaden the range of my research a bit. Most of the people on this forum work for themselves so I'm looking for any stories or tips you guys might have to newcomers to the trade, anything from client management to organizational tips to inspiration. I'll give credit for any information I use in the report!

I'm also looking for a few successful people to interview about their business experiences. PM me or add me on MSN (talk[at]roboturner.com).

Thanks =]

I find using an old-fashion notepad improves my productivity. Since I work on a desktop now, I can't take my computer everywhere and writing the stuff out helps me keep track of everything better.

Keyword research is pretty much the only skill a newcomer needs to have. Everything else can be outsourced.

Do you have any tips as to how a newcomer could find people to outsource to?

Ummm... they should outsource stuff to a bunch of different people and then decide who they like best. So, they should test, something they'll get used to if they get into this line of business.

I have this same problem. A lot of BS out there.

There are some people floating around who write articles who have slashed their prices for extra money for xmas.

Make sure you check with plagerism sites like copyscape for any articles you get done.

Seems to be an idea to try and catch people successful on the freelancing sites in forums to contact direct.

Doesnt seem to be any replacements for trial and error. Always get references and try and get small tests done. There are also a lot of scammers who I wouldnt particularly trust out there. You have to be careful.

Thats why articles are such a safe bet.
