So I write this long-ass rant on domainingtips.com about why I fucking hate blogging. Though I would post a part of it in here too.

This, and jizzing in my pants, is why I don't blog. Not now, not ever (except for this one veerrrry lame Uni assignment where it was mandatory).
The one thing that really shits me is how certain bloggers get a cult of perosnality, and become "authority figures" to the point that people that actually do know what they're talking about (i.e. people that actually do well in that particular industry) are totally dirsregarded because they "don't even have a blog". Oh, and don't forget, Eric fucking Bauman's got his own blog now that he got fired from Ebaum's World. All the more reason not to have one. You don't want to be like Eric Bauman, do you?

word. If you were blogging in German you'd have another problem: Nobody reads your shit unless he's a blogger or comes from google search... so the effect you have on people is nearly to 0 (and the money you make as well).

My head annoys people

Blogging is an easy way to express yourself through writing. Just as some people want to grab a guitar and sing to express themselves, other people want to write about various issues. Blogging allows those people to both express, and reach an audience at the same time.
1. No one has to do anything. 2. Turn off the comments, or ignore them. Better yet, delete the comments. 3. Patience. In Greece we say "I write him on my balls", but it does not translate well. "Screw 'em" is a fitting alternative. 4. As above. 5. There is not really a stereotype of a blogger, just as there is no stereotype of a writer. It's an illusion. |

Am I supposed to give a fuck about that?
Quote:
2. Yup, but that doesn't change the fact that you have to read that crap AND in the next comment they call you names for censorship. Been there done that and it isn't fun for me. 3. Hahah! Right on man. Except that I would rather optimize my energy and efforts and focus on what makes me better return on time invested. 4. As above. 5. Unfortunately, that illusion is a reality for a lot of people and you have unnecessary pressure on yourself which you'd rather not have to deal with and focus on your core stuff. THIS IS NOT SPARTA!

Good points for sure. There is a downside to most things though.
I like blogging. More than anything it helps me to learn... It's been proven that you only retain so much from things that you read. But when you write something you on average retain a bit more of it. When you teach someone, you retain even more. |

I got a few things to say about blogging but I'll spare everyone what would surely be the longest post ever on wf. Just stick by your principles man. You started blogging for a reason. Every blogger eventually falls victim to trying to appease to the masses just remember why you started your blog in the first place and ignore what everyone else wants to get out of you.

Oh boy I was waiting for someone to make the John Chow and Super-Blogger reference and some dude just made it at my blog.
Time to go blast him... or stick to Eli's advice and not give a fuck.

I totally agree that blogging sucks.
I spent about two years blogging in a couple of niches and dealt with the same crap the original poster talks about. All of it. Oh, and getting one of my Wordpress blogs hacked because that always happens, if you blog long enough. Now I add an rss feed to a static html site for blog functionality. You can submit your rss feed to all the blog directories, you get listed in Google's blog search, you can submit your rss feed everyplace else you want to, you can ping after you update, and generally get all the "fun" that you'd have with a regular blog without all the shit (i.e. lame commenters, having the pressure of updating all the time because it's a blog format, etc.) Works really nicely and I can leave a site alone for months and just get back to it when I want to. |

I have not and will never blog. To much effort to think of what to blog about everyday. Being tied to blogging means I can't achieve my goal of not working at all (or at least only a few hours a week or a month).

While I dislike the idea of having my own blog, I will write the occasional post or two for a friend. I generally have long arsed rants in messenger clients anyway, and most of that can be fixed up with some decent grammar and punctuation and turned into a semi-decent article anyway.
I think I let Brar actually sucker me into writing some stuff for him at some point in the future...
