The day after Thanksgiving here in the USA when all the big Christmas deals start, especially from like 6-12pm on Friday.

Best Buy has the x1600 512 MB PCIe / AGP card for $99 - sweet deal I think.

It's called Black Friday because when most company's are "in the red" (reporting a loss), the day after Thanksgiving brings in so much sales that it takes them from the red to the black (profit) - hence, it's named after the huge profits these companies make... Black Friday

A couple years ago I tried to hunt down the deals.

I got off work for Black Friday, had the money plus extra set aside, made my list, checked it twice, and planned the route from store to store, set my alarm bright and early and woke up at set off to shop!
All but an item or two was out of stock from my list. It wasn't worth the time and dealing w/the mean crabby people were shopping that early.

I'll go to work today, earn some money and spend it in peace before Christmas!

I camped out at my local Best Buy with like 10 good friends. The time was AMAZING, I had such a blast. We stayed up all night, just chilling out, talking, laughing, chatting with the people next to us in line (Ph.D Students from Turkey no less). We got there at 10 thanksgiving night, but were already like 100th in line. By the time they passed out # cards though (due to cutters, who suck) we were 160's . But it's all good, we got what we wanted.
I picked up 100 DVD-R's for $5, and Battlefield 2142 (amazing game!) for $25. One of my friends snagged a 22" Widescreen LCD Flat Panel display. For $200. I was pretty impressed, it looks wicked, so I think he got the best deal of the day.

haha, there was like about 4-500 people at the best buy by the time they started handing out tickets. most of the people in the first 100 only wanted the frontpage sale items. and most of the people that was there only bought a few things like portable dvd players, laptops, and whatnot.
