How long is your business plan? A full business plan, without operations manual, is typically 60-70 pages. If you're talking about the executive overview (typically 1 or 2 pages) I'll read over it for you.

But you should also know, at this point it's just a business concept. The actual executive overview is a summary of all the other sections (industry, opportunity, concept, marketing, time frame, finanance/cash flow, exit strategy, etc...) and you don't know that stuff until you do the research.

In any case, I've written a few business plans and I'd be glad to help you out - drop me a PM.

Comments:

1) Saying, "what's the point in paying a tutor when you have all the information on a website" (paraphrasing what you said) is a bad idea for two reasons. First, having someone explain something to you in person with the ability to answer your individual questions is invaluable (why this forum is so great, for example). If the information was the only important thing, we would have text books and no teachers or schools... this isn't likely to flatter your instructor. Your point is well taken, but must be stated more eloquently.

2) At the end of the first section, you contradict yourself. You say, "This leads to the desire for a student to learn, which is really the ultimate goal of teaching." But, earlier on, you claim, "too much unnecessary information that generally dilutes the important facts which will need to be known for a final exam or an Advanced Placement (AP) test."

So which is it? Is it more important for students to learn? Or more important to grasp the concepts on which you'll be tested? This conflict of interest is a huge problem in the US today... A tricky topic to avoid yet a complete mess to bring up.

3) Alright I just read your Product Descrpition/Service and now have a completely new opinion. First of all, you have a "free section" and then a "premium section" you have to pay for... .fine... but you say only the premium section promises to get all the facts right? I'd take a stupid text book that gets ALL the facts right and sift through the crappy parts. Right off the bat, you're crapping on your own product.

4) Spark Notes is your biggest competitor? You have TONS of competitors on the side of helping students. What's your competitive advantage?

To be honest, I see the bigger opportunity on the TeacherHQ side of things. Much less barriers to entry. Much less competition. And, it makes a ton of sense. Every teacher (and community member) brings more information into the community. New ideas. New thoughts on how to relate to the kids.

StudentHQ and TeacherHQ are essentially two separate business models. Targeting different users. Serve different purposes. Have different competition. Sure... they are VERY related, but jumbling them together the way you have makes the picture way too hazy. I would recommned focusing on TeacherHQ... the opportunity exists and the concept would work.

On top of this, you have a great resource - your teacher/professor. Talk about kissing ass! Ask them about the idea... show them your original draft and then tell them what I told you... how there is so much competition on the student side already, that you thought the teacher side might offer some great opportunities. But, since you're not a teacher, you're not sure what resources already exist.

Is this a good idea? Or just rewrite this for TeacherHQ and tell him the backstory. However, it's essential that you talk to your teacher about your idea and ask for suggestions and perspective. A chef wouldn't like you telling them how to cook; a doctor wouldn't like you telling them what to prescribe; and your teacher sure as hell wouldn't like you schooling them on their own profession. You need the "green light" from them. If you get the green light, you're golden... pretty much guaranteed an 'A' and you'll get as much guidance from them as you want.

I'm sure this isn't as coherent as it could be. I just did a quick read and gave my opijnions and thoughts off the top of my head as I was reading. Feel free to post in this thread or PM me with any questions.

And goodluck.
Trig
