It's an easy test to game, I used to teach high school kids how to ace the math section. Asian kid that's decent at math plus a butt load of money from his parents plus me equals perfect math score. Had nothing to do with the kids aptitude but just gaming the test and having parents willing to pay for expensive tutoring.
I live in a conservative area that's very against affirmative action and it's funny as hell to hear rich spoiled kids complain about how blacks/mexicans can get into college so much easier with low SAT scores. Like the SAT score they got after there parents paid for 2 years of classes adquetely compares there real aptitude to a kid that just goes and takes the test one day and doesn't have parents that spend thousands on classes. |

I'll be honest, I scored a 1350 but this was back in 1995 when I was applying to colleges. Is it a fair assessment of intelligence? No. Is it an accurate measure of 'aptitude'? No. However, it does present some objective measure of qualification for future education standards - not necessarily indicating who will or won't succeed in college or a career, but just to present a universal paradigm that can be utilized by independent entities (colleges, etc). It's not a particularly difficult test, nor does it test 'knowledge' accrued in high school; it's more a test of how you can construct, problem solve, eliminate answers and proceed successfully.
I think there is some value in this test, but it is by NO means an 'end all, be all.' On that note, the LSAT is much more reliable but that too has flaws. For the record - and to toot my own horn - I scored a 168 on that, graduating from UCLA. Go ahead an flame me now, if necessary, because yes - I am proud of that fact. Ev

1280. Then I dropped out of high school, joined the military, and got my Good Enough Degree (GED).

I never took the SAT, but I did take the ACT. Just another hoop to jump threw in order to get into college. It's not that big of a deal, it's not that hard, don't worry about it. Just snort a line of adderall and colon cleanse and you should be good.

I took the class you take before the SATs. It cost me like $65 and taught me how to get a better score on the SATs. They taught me things like, if you don't know the answer, then guess 'c' because 65% of the time, the answer is 'c', unless you are in the math section of the test, then 55% of the time the answer is 'b'.
I took it because my girlfriend at the time really thought I should, and she was pretty hot and I didn't want to disappoint. We broke up before the SAT's though, and I didn't bother. I went to community collage then a tech school and finished just fine. lol @ Good Enough Degree |

I had a 1360 SAT and flunked out of college at the end of the first year. Three years later I took the LSAT. I was still either a freshman or barely a sophomore ( took classes at a CC and at the old school as a non-matriculated student until I could transfer), and I am pretty sure it was a 165. That's not a 168 or 169, but it was in the 93rd percentile ( presumably among people who were actually going to graduate college and go to law school) and was a qualifying score for MENSA. I never did graduate, though I have taken classes on and off forever. My career GPA was right around 2.0 from 5 different schools. I did get a AA, but that's worthless. At the time I just liked actually finishing something.
My friend got a 700. He ended up graduating from the school I started at. It was not easy to get into. It wasnt exactly a big deal- A highly respected state University, though. My friend went to community college until he could transfer with a 2.0 and graduated like 8 years later. He has a degree and I don't. There are a lot of people with high SATs who don't do well in college. And there are those who are barely literate who make it through. Extreme examples, but I think generally SAT is overrated- depending on what you are trying to rate. |

Hell I couldn't finish my essay conclusion. I should've written I made more money than the essay grader ($17/hour. 25 hours a week). I think I did poor with critical reading too.

It won't measure how successful you'll be in life. I know some people who have gotten ridiculously high scores, got into the top ridiculously expensive universities, yet are now working a 9-5 job. Honestly I didn't do so well on the test, got an average score, but the thing that separates me from some of the ones that scored higher is the hard work and drive that I put in at whatever I do.
The thing that pisses me off the most is that people think the kids who score the highest will be the most successful, FALSE. As Kanye West puts it (stfu he's my favorite artist: "Look at the Valedictorian, scared of the future while I hop in the DeLorean."

I got a 1370 in January. 720 math, 650 critical reading. I'm provisionally accepted into the college I want to go to in 2010 [junior in hs now] because of it. I have a couple of normal, not completely nerdy friends that got into the 1500's/1600 and a couple of equally intelligent friends that barely broke 1k. It just all depends on how well of a test taker you are I guess.
