I find it funny that Shoemoney was able to act swifter with legal action (an affiliate using the Shoemoney w/ check image for a Google Money offer) than Harpo was... Harpo pretty much did nothing for quite some time and in the process let their brands get some negative attention.

If one of the affiliates involved wanted to fight this in court, a good defense point may also be "why is the Illinois AG acting on behalf of Oprah as her personal litigation team instead of standing up for the rights of the consumers in IL?" -- Of course that may open an even bigger wound of say, the consumers who were fucked during the pillaging campaign of Acai.. But hey, any good lawyer could see this side of it and spin it to put the IL AG into the hot seat, and with all of those issues the state is already going through with the housing bribery crap, you know they don't want anymore bad press on them.

Just a thought..

I think of it like this. They could've brought down the hammer at any time. But that would involve Oprah directly in the litigation, and would likely hurt her brand and create a bunch of drama she doesn't want(though waiting hurt it too obviously).
So instead, she took more time to keep her name out of it and brought down Thor's hammer(the AG).

Has anyone verified Oprah actually went on the Somers anti-aging regime? Can she document that she did in fact take the supplements in the manner described by Suzanne? If not, it would seem to me that Oprah was essentially blindly endorsing an anti-aging regimen with no medical background (last I checked she wasn't a licensed M.D.) and creating and publishing in one of the largest magazine publications false testimony which invariably led to the sale of hundreds of thousands of copies of Suzanne Somers' book, and without a doubt put hundreds of thousands of women in harm's way without full disclosure about the risks of the regimen.

Oprah went on record saying something to the effect of she believes her viewers to be smart enough to find out what is best for them, their health etc. (not an exact quote) but in fact she knows full well that these people follow her word blindly as witnessed by the countless millionaires she has made by having people on her show. I wonder if she makes a percentage of sales from her guests following her show... If so, I would say she is no different than any other marketer she is attempting to sue... Just some thoughts.

Dang, this is funny because noobies are always bombarded with "stay away from the unlawful stuff you will get busted" I can't tell you how many times I'd come across that advice. But the more I learned the clearer it become just how the top players are chest deep in the opposite direction. Yesterday I went through a 3 hour course by a top affi and the guys method is so criminal I was ready to try it today till I found this post.

Look at the comment's on Oprah's page re: her non-relationship with Acai offers - The Truth About Oprah, Dr. Oz, Acai berry, MonaVie and Resveratrol - Oprah.com - then you'll realize why they're going after affiliates so hard. People assume that because the ads have Oprah, that she endorsed it, and that she's the one *scamming* them with rebills.

In the Valtrex commercial, if the people on there endorsing were just actors, then by FTC rules they MUST clarify that they are actors, or that it is a "re-enactment" of sort.
