Alright, so I need a new host. I've currently got zensix, and it's alright, but it's pretty damn slow a lot of the time (and its pretty much down right now).

I'm thinking about a VPS. Any suggestions? I really don't need much storage. I'm currently hosting 4-6 sites depending on the day (I flip some occasionally), one of which gets decent traffic (~200 UV's/day, ~350 PV's/day), and the rest get pretty weak traffic. What do you think I need? I want something fast, and more importantly, reliable.

I've used JaguarPC in the past for VPS and they've been great.

What server are you on that's pretty much down? All of the shared servers are well under load right now.

However, the cPanel servers are in DimeNOC and they are a hell of a lot slower than the DirectAdmin servers. If you're on a cPanel server and want to move, just submit a ticket.

* The only reason we even still have the cPanel option available is because we need to fill the last server.

So here's the deal, we've been pretty screwed by DimeNOC and some of the deals they made us last year. Anyway, I don't want to go in to details, but if you want off server2, I'll give you a 50% discount for the first month of a VPS if you want to test it out. Any complaints that we have ever had in the past has always been the direct result of something that DimeNOC did. But I know that in the end it doesn't matter what DimeNOC does, because we're the ones who are ultimately responsible.

No way you need a VPS for 250 uv/day. It is not your 250 uv/day making your site slow right now, it's just the slow server. Just get a shared host (my hostgator affiliate link would be nice

), upgrade to a VPS when you actually need one.

On a side note, this site is on server2, and even when it's overloaded a bit I never really notice a slow down: skewism.com

If you're not technically incompetent then Slicehost and Linode would be good to look into.

Doubtful he's looking for unmanaged. For managed I'd recommend wiredtree.com. Great support. It's not as easy to use as say hostgator but once you get use to it it's great.

However like someone said, with that few visitors hit up hostgator, it's more than enough for the traffic you have.

i have one of the zensix vps plans and it's screaming fast. i compare it to another vps that has similar specs from another hosting provider - and the price and speed of the z6 vps is significantly better.

You don't have anywhere close to enough traffic to need a VPS. I have run sites that get a couple thousand uniques/day with no noticeable slow down on a bullshit GoDaddy shared account.
