I've been brainstorming a new nickname/handle and I keep drawing a blank...I look around WF and various blogs and I see a lot of creative nicknames, so I wanted to ask - what's the story behind your nickname?

I've never blogged much, so what little I have done has been under my own name. So, when I signed up for WF, I used a name I've used for years in gaming - Mereo. I needed a new handle for gaming years ago and couldn't think of anything that hadn't already been taken, so I started browsing a Latin dictionary. Mereo is latin and has a number of different meanings, including deserve or merit, gain, obtain and serve as a soldier. Since I was looking for something for a wargame, I figured that last definition fit, I registered for that game as 'Mereo' and I've been using it ever since.

I'm not particularly attached to the name and I've been trying to come up with a decent new name to use, but I'm hitting a complete and total mental and creative block!

Hah, I am fully aware that the name "chatmasta" is gay as hell. Originally (as in 4th grade), my AIM was "mjrpbplayer" - my initials + pb (paintball) + player. So the first forum I ever joined, which was RuneVillage .::. Where RuneScapers Escape if you're interested, I tried joining under the name mjrpbplayer. But I put in a BS email address just because that was my habit. Then I couldn't get the email confirmation link, so I had to think of a new name on the spot. And I chose "chatmasta." Fuuuuuuck.

I have a few other nicks I use but I use them to be anonymous. But they are cooler than chatmasta.

alright, i got this name in high school, i was on varsity for the swim team, and because back then i was about 6'2" and 220 lbs i was a big guy. And for every swim meet the cheerleader would make custom posters for all the varsity swimmers and post them around school then post them at the meets. Well they gave me the name, The Big Sexy.

It was fucking awesome walking around school have damn near every cheerleader and hot chick call you "The Big Sexy" but it was sort of fucking creepy when a guy would do it. So i told the guys just to call me "Fat Tom" because it sounded a hell of a lot less gay then yelling "GO BIG SEXY, GO" and thats how i got this name.

I missed the nickname meeting so when I showed up for the 1rst game they threw me a jersey with "Kimbo Slice" plastered on the back.

Wow, I was half expected to get flamed for this thread (still fairly new, so I think I'm still nervous to post anything or click any links!) - I really appreciate you guys responding.

Yeah, I had a couple of names I used on BBS's and then IRC before I used this one, but unfortunately I spent most of my time in a channel that moved from Undernet to efnet; when it moved, I spent quite a bit of time fighting with some other guy for my nick. It wasn't a big deal, I would just put it in brackets or dashes when he was online and using it, but then I started getting messages meant for him...and it turns out that he was an op in a channel for homosexual teenage boys. So, yeah, I stopped using that nick.

In case you're wondering, that nick was 'Phazed'. Seemed like a great nick to me, but apparently he liked it, too.

Matter of fact, now that I think about it, maybe that experience is why I'm having such a mental block about picking a new nick...
