The interesting thing about it is they call my phone asking "Who am I speaking with?" Now normally that wouldn't be a problem if that was the follow up from "Hi I'm such and such from Convert2Media." So like any normal person answering a call from an unknown number I say "Who is this?" This continues back and forth a few times and eventually they say "I guess I'm talking to nobody, this is ___ from Convert2Media by the way" *click*

Guess that's one network down the drain. I've talked to Ruck a few times some years back, cool guy. But that wasn't really professional. Anyway that is all.

That was me that called you. And yea, apologies it's a simple fraud prevention trick. Nobody is special, we call everyone the same way. The very fact I said I was from Convert2Media is a tactic designed to let you know that it was C2M that was calling in case you change your mind and call us back.

If the phone call bothered you that much, you just took a load off my mind. So thanks.

Fraud is freakin rampant in Affiliate Marketing right now.

Just cause someone knows what they're talking about when you ask them questions about AM isnt even safe anymore because these fraud rings are hiring leggitimate people to make accounts for them.

The only way to catch them is to try and get them to backstep and screw up some of the information your trying to check on. I think thats a great fraud prevention getting the persons name first incase they are one of these people signing up for multiple accounts at multiple networks gunna have to use that one haha

If it was a verification call, I'd call them back and try again. Maybe I'm weird but I have no problem identifying myself on the phone before the other person does, even to someone calling a wrong number.

In this situation, knowing who's calling i'd not have a problem. Just watch out for those scammers trying to call, asking your name etc to get your details.

I get TONS of the "Unidentified Caller" calls that want to "Chat me Up" before getting to "their" agenda. I do NOT have time for that kind of crap nor am I willing to tolerate such open ended interruptions.

Ruck, I can appreciate your position and screening tactics with fraud being what it is nowadays, but like the OP here, you would have had even less cooperation from me with a call like that.

I'm sure that your AM program is a first rate operation and I cast no disparaging remarks your way. I'm just saying that the OP is not alone out here when it comes to wanting to know who has "Interrupted Us."

An unplanned phone call is an interruption to the recipient no matter who is calling. If the interruption is not deemed justified to the recipient, it WILL end and leave less than positive thoughts in the recipient's mind.

You have to keep in mind that something as simple as a Doctor's Office call to give a verbal result for some medical test can ONLY be given to the person who the test was done for. This means that the caller MUST identify who they are talking to first.

HIPAA laws have made it to where now in my area, you have to go back IN PERSON to get your test results. They won't call you with them anymore.

Well Ruck I'm willing to toss it up as a miscommunication. I'm always willing to do business and its not my style to argue or even try to disrespect anyone on a forum. If you can step in my shoes for one moment you should realize that I run a business just like you and that like anyone else I get solicited everyday from unidentified callers. Just like I can now see where you are coming from with the fraud verification. If you found this post disrespectful, it wasn't meant that way. I thought the phone call was disrespectful which is why I didn't hurry to call back. Now that I know the reasoning for what happened I'm willing to put it aside. So let me know. I have no ego when it comes to money.

Just for the record I was sorta replying to two posts earlier. I understand what you are saying Midas completely. What you may or may not know is I have bounties of $250-$500 per approved account with C2M that I am dealing with. Quite honestly, we do the best we can, with what we have. We have more people trying to get in and working negative then we do positive and that goes for almost all cpa networks.

I do agree with the majority of the posters in this thread, Drew Iza is missing out on a GREAT opportunity here and Ruck may be losing out on a PRODUCING affiliate due to this "Misunderstanding".

Had Drew just called Ruck back, I'm sure Ruck would have explained the first call and then Drew should have understood his position and then they could have moved forward together with this LITTLE thing behind them.

Unfortunately, Drew seems to have dismissed C2M even after he found out who was calling him.

Since Ruck DID disclose who was calling before hanging up, Drew really should have called back to investigate further before making any decision.

Hopefully after all this laundry airing, Ruck will get a few more affiliates. (Who will now understand his screening process a little better.)

It's just too bad that Drew has now pissed Ruck off by posting this here.

I think both are at fault to some degree. Ruck I think you guys should do different ways of verifying as I don't think I would tell someone my full name before knowing who it was because fraud is going both ways throughout the world. Also to Drew I don't think there is a real point in posting stuff on message boards unless its something like someone stealing money etc to help others out because anything more ends up making this place a glorified DP or Warrior forum. Maybe you're right. But just so you know this wasn't a personal attack at Ruck. TBH I didn't actually hear who it was at the end of the call which is why in my OP I had the "________" for the name. I only mentioned Ruck's name in my OP because I know it's his network. I was actually making the post in hope that he would see this.

I understand that haste makes waste, and I made this thread with a bit of disapointment and bitterness. But now that it is all cleared up we can move forward. But like I said, this wasn't a personal attack at Ruck, I didn't know who it was that called me. For all I knew it was just a random AM at the end of the call.

I think I saw a video somewhere where Ruck basically says he must know all the traffic sources that an affiliate sends. Landing pages, sources, etc. Cloaking is fine but he must know whats going on behind the scenes.

I know where he is coming from on this ... but that's enough for someone who is in PPC not to work with him - which Ruck is fine with. The thing is for PPC guys we get aff networks competing with us all the time. I have had Aff managers and network owners take my keywords and run them behind my back (or even sell them - so it makes it that much harder to trace).

In my opinion, the paranoid/007 manner in which Ruck conducts business is a little too aggressive. There's a lot of network choices out there so...

btw, what did the caller ID say? Ruck, you hung up on him ... so why should he call you back (whats the point you already verified his #). If you wouldnt have hung up on him maybe this thread wouldnt exist?

^^^ That's easy. We have been capping most of our bizopps daily or we weed out non-performers or offers just die. The only reason you get a lot from us is that I choose on the network level to notify when this happens versus most networks not saying anything.

Ruck's a great guy on WickedFire, but I gotta agree, this is pretty iffy. I answer the phone with my name now, because I do a lot of business stuff over the phone, but I remember those after school specials telling kids to never give out their name over the phone to a strange caller.
