Question Need Desk recommendations!

Well I'm redoing my work space on a budget so I need a cheap desk with enough room for 2 Laptops and an additional 23" monitor.

Has to be less then $150. Any ideas?

Self made would be okay too if someone has a good plan on how to build it (again, the cheaper the better, I'd much rather spend the cash on PPC then a desk)

I will most probably get one of these chairs with it:
Walmart.com: Leather Executive Chair: Furniture
Walmart.com: Bonded Leather Chair: Furniture

Thanks guys!

I checked that out and it's actually not much cheaper then just getting a cheapo desk.

The ones Big enough at Ikea are kinda pricey so far my best choice I think. Any specific tip?

If you're serious (I was just kidding)....

I can't see it costing more than $40-50 or so if you built the sawhorses yourself. 2x4s are cheap and a 4x8' piece of good quality thick plywood shouldn't be more than $30ish.

Dude, if you're already ballin' at Walmart, head over to Home Depot and pick up a 6ft folding table - lots of table top real estate.

Lifetime Almond 6 Ft. Utility Table - 22900 at The Home Depot

They are like half this price in store.

Laugh if you will, but that's pretty much what I'm rolling w/ now. Haha (except it's solid wood).

The girlfriend isn't too happy about folding table, I suggested that too.

Oh I forgot an important requirement:

Needs to be sturdy enough to support two people!

Fuck cheap desks. I'm putting thousands of dollars of expensive computer equipment on it, the last thing I want is a cheap desk breaking and destroying my stuff. I wouldn't skimp on a desk, get something solid.

I've used this desk for over a year and actually really like it: Z-Line® Gemini L-Desk, Maple/Black | Staples®

Mine doesn't have the ugly black legs and the wood is a bit darker, but it's the same model from Staples. I have tons of stuff on this thing and plenty of room left.

This is what it looked like while I was crashing with my brother for a few months in a tiny bedroom:

We just had a desk thread... might even be one page one still.

As was recommended before, the Galant line from Ikea is nice, and height adjustable. Flexible if you want to add on to it later with all kinds of shapes, drawers, keyboard trays, etc. etc.

I have 3 of these tables in my office. $140 each. For $20 more you can get them with the T legs. Come in a variety of finished but white is cheapest. Has a full metal frame underneath and can support a lot of weight.

IKEA | Desks | GALANT system | GALANT | Desk

roknrolltkovr has a spectacular aura about
I've got the Galant mentioned above with a laptop and two 22" monitors on it, and a few other things, its got tons of space. Found it for $30 on craigslist and then I built a monitor stand out of Ikea office stuff, that was another $20. I think its a pretty killer setup for 50 bucks.

Staples has a lot of good desks, and Ikea has a good selection, too. Right now I'm using one of the smaller Ikea desks (the small table size), but I'm only working with 1 24" monitor and a laptop for now. My old setup of a 24", 19", and 1 or 2 laptops wouldn't have worked on that desk, though. What you can do, is get the desk legs from Ikea ($5-$15 each on average for the table legs), and find something else for the desk top. Going to Lowes or Home Depot can give you a lot of ideas for different materials you can use for the desktop.

IKEA used to have this desk but it looks like they discontinued it. Not sure why because it's one of the most sturdy and comfortable desks available.

Check your local craigslist -- I've seen them anywhere from free to $80

Maybe because it was called "Jerker"? With ergonomics to support... nevermind.

We had the exact same ones at our last office in Vancouver too. Cherry tops, extra extensions both wings, a rolling cabinet, plus keyboard trays. Perfect setup.

$100 is an awesome deal. OP should try to find something like this.

Yeah I'll definitely try to get a decent chair.

I'll keep checking CL and if I can't find something I'll build a cheap one myself. I can build a wooden one for less then a 6ft folding table and it will look lots better too.

Anybody have any good cheap (<100) chairs?

I found these two from walmart:

Walmart.com: Leather Executive Chair: Furniture
Walmart.com: Bonded Leather Chair: Furniture

We've had a million chair threads here. Try the search function.

A decent chair will set you back hundreds if not $1000 or more. You might be better off looking at Office Depot or Ikea than Walmart for your seating choice (though it looks like those models from Walmart are also available from Office Depot).

The more adjustments the better.

Those would be height, tilt, back depth, back tilt (independent of the seat), seat tilt, lumbar support, arm height, arm width, arm angle, removable arms, head rest.

The more of these you can cover off the better.

I might suggest something like this for $150, but as you can see the customer reviews are abysmal, because the mechanisms break. This is the problem with cheap chairs.

Realspace PRO Maverick Multifunction High Back Fabric Chair 44 H x 26 1 2 W x 25 D Black Frame Navy Fabric by Office Depot

Here's one from Ikea.

IKEA | Work chairs | Office approved chairs | BONNY/ VERKSAM | Swivel chair

Again, CL would be the way to go. Try to pick up an Obusforme (usually starts at about $500) or an Aeron (starts in the $800 range I think but can easily go over $1000). I see Aerons in the SF area (for example) on CL starting in the $300 range, which is pretty killer if they are still in OK condition.

I personally always take the arms off my chairs as it keeps me from slouching on them and fucking up my shoulders. It also lets me get in closer to my desk as arms always just get in the way.

I have one like this from IKEA

IKEA | Work chairs | Basic chairs | TORBJÖRN | Swivel chair

It has a mesh back and I added the arm rests.

I can do nothing but recommend it.

I just got this one:

RS To Go Zeplin High Back Vinyl Chair 48 4 5 H x 26 3 8 W x 28 1 2 D Black by Office Depot

Found a 10$ off coupon so for $69 it should get me through at least till I can get something better.

I'll build the desk myself. How hard can it be?

Thanks guys!

I've had one of the Bush Corsa's for about 3 years. I just bought a few new pieces for when my attic is finished off and move my office up there. No scratches or any problems so far.
