New Scientist Tech, Nov. 12, 2009
University of Washington researchers are developing a contact lens with embedded microelectronics for overlaying graphics on the real world that could provide a compelling augmented reality experience. ![]() From the article: "One obvious problem is powering such a device. The circuitry requires 330 microwatts but doesn't need a battery. Instead, a loop antenna picks up power beamed from a nearby radio source." <---- this was the biggest problem I saw for this tech, but it seems they got it. "As to what kinds of images can be viewed on this screen, the possibilities seem endless. Examples include subtitles when conversing with a foreign-language speaker, directions in unfamiliar territory and captioned photographs. The lens could also serve as a head-up display for pilots or gamers." Article link: Contact lenses to get built-in virtual graphics |

I got Lasik 8 years ago. At the time the total cost was just under $4000.
That was the best money I ever spent in my life. I had glasses from age 7 until age 28. Sadly I still feel more comfortable wearing glasses than not wearing glasses - but now at least the only ones I wear are my shades. |

Just think of some other advanced possibilities....
For example... The contacts could be powered by thermal energy directly translated from the body. You could use them as a "Total Environment Display", where you're reality is augmented by specific databases picked up via WiMax or WiFi... Enhanced visual systems, like low light or NV enhancements... Instant color change based on pattern reflection... Enhanced clarity via "Blu Blocker" type systems.. Greater visual acuity, such as telescopic or microscopic zooming, image enhancements... Direct connect with my PS9 - so I can be truely immersed in Call Of Duty 6... A whole new pantheon of drug related functions - we could get high just by allowing the display systems to change the way our perception is ... well... perceived. Targeting systems for enhanced weapons systems, or even when playing dodgeball, golf, baseball, or basketball... Hmm.. wonder if they would be considered illegal for sports use? Always on internet in your eyes.... you can see how bad that girl from MySpace REALLY looked the morning after... Instead of being at work, flipping burgers for the ugliest little fat dwarven dude ever, you could use them to digitally enhance his image into a hot, naked, hair flowing femme fatale... Maybe not naked... that might cause tent pants.... But, you COULD use them to "interact" with porn movies... Or to remake your girl/boyfriend into that guy/girl your dreaming about that lives down the hall.... Use them with Google whatever, to learn about stars at night, or what types of weed are growing inyour back yard... Hell, possibilities are endless!!!! XeeLee |

I wish they would better make a camera (at least photo) in the form of a crystalline. 2 GB of memory + WiFi would be great. I would insert that in the empty space left after they pulled out the crystalline after it got broken. Lots of people would replace blurred or old ones with that shit too.
