Holiday Laptop Deals?

I'm desperately in need of a new laptop and its that time of year. Last year I snagged a desktop and 2 monitors from NewEgg on Thanksgiving Day which turned out to be unbelievable. This year I'm hoping to be equally successful in the laptop department.

My DREAM laptop would be dual monitors, like the Thinkpad w700ds:
Lenovo - ThinkPad W700ds

Unfortunately, that starts at $2100 and I'm not looking to spend that much. I'm willing to spend up to $1k but will go a little higher if it means adding some element of pure awesomeness. I've heard great things about Lenovo's Ideapads/Thinkpads and the Ideapad Y550 for $599 is looking pretty darn good:

That being said, DELL appears to have some great deals lined up for Black Friday too:

And of course I'm interested in what NewEgg will have since they seem to absolutely knock it out of the park on savings. I'm sure Amazon will have some sweet offers as well.

So lets hear it... what would you recommend getting and where?

I love me my dell XPS 1640.

It was about $1,500, though....

Looks like this link has a good deal for a XPS 16 for $1000.

I don't know what options that includes, however....

I got mine with dual core 2.4ghz P8600, 4 gig DDR3, radeon 4670 with gig of ram, LED 1080P widescreen LCD, integrated bluetooth, HD drop shock protection, 500 gig HD, some more goodies I can't think of....

I love it.

Edit: I can't wait to get Modern Warfare 2, I'm sure my laptop will run it flawlessly. :)

I've got a XPS 1640 and I love it too, just gotta be okay with a "larger" laptop

True dat. It's "supposed" to be a 16 incher hence "1640" (although I think it's a tad smaller). So, that's really important to note if you're looking for something smaller.

This has been my desktop replacement.......my desktop has been dusting over ever since I got it.

I take it everywhere with me, however. I fucking love it. This is how I've been able to make so many posts lately.....hehehe. Oh and the money that bought me this damn thing, too. I love life! :)

I'm thinking of getting a hella tiny netbook to go along with my XPS.....especially since black Friday is coming up.

I've seen some black Friday ads advertising $180 Compaq netbooks.... Hellz yeah.....cheap and shitty, but CHEAP. ;)

They only have a gig though :( Maybe you can open them up....I dunno.

Tigerdirect.com

Acer Travel Mate laptop keyboards are god tier -- you can type so fast on those. And uh, the best bang for your bucks.

I used to be a computer junkie -- at one point I had 4 LAPTOPS on my desk. I sold it all, now I have an Acer Aspire laptop and don't plan to buy another one until 2017 because converted into Judaism.

I didn't complain.

Dell batteries are fucking expensive though.

Edit: I dl'ed MW2 last night, I can run it great at 720P. Unfortunately that's not native. More settings to test though.

::off to play MW2::

Sounds like the Dell Studio XPS 16 is the leading suggestion. I'm really intrigued by Ideapad/Thinkpad but the Dell seems like a "can't lose" type of situation...

Definitely eager to hear what folks have to say about Ideapads/Thinkpads if you've got experience, especially in regards to their performance vs. the Dell mentioned above.

UnripeArbiter 11-22-2009 06:44 PM

Yeah, I would really encourage you to look around and get other suggestions too, though.

Don't just take my word for it for damn sure. :)

My Lenovo laptops have been the best I have ever owned. I've been through Dell, Toshiba, HP, Sony and Asus... all dead now. But all of my Lenovo laptops are alive and kicking. I beat the shit out of my S10 and it's still solid.

I really like Thinkpads except for the location of the "Fn" key, I press "Fn" every damn time that I want to press "Ctrl". That small annoyance causes me to stick with Dell notebooks until Lenovo offers an option to swap the "Fn" and "Ctrl" keys.
