Interesting Jon crazy? ......

crazy as a fox.....

I know this was just posted in the industry new section but not sure how many people check it.

It seems shoemoney just posted on his blog confirming the government is looking into the ringtone industry.

Why would he be crazy? Shit like this happens all the time in all different kinds of industries.

Edit: I read up on it and see why you posted it because some people didn't believe him...

Ultimately it is the responsibility of the advertiser to police its affiliates. I remember about 2 years ago some advertiser got in to trouble for what its affiliates had done, i forget the name of the exact company but the ruling was that the advertiser needed to put in place mechanisms and processes to police their affiliates.

If you're an affiliate or affiliate network i wouldn't put much weight in to the AG coming after you unless you conspired with the advertiser to purposely defraud and mislead consumers.

A lot of times these legal statements are more fluff and BS than anything else. I am sure there is an election coming up in FL which is why the AG is getting aggressive on these matters, it looks good when they campaign.

I heard the FBI raided dunkin donuts armed with cell phones and demanded their double mocha latte with whip pronto

Edit: there were no "bonus ringtones" in their cell phones

This is quoted directly from Shoemoney's blog:

Quote:
They said at this time it is a civil action (not criminal). They named Shawn Collins and Jon as well as affiliate networks like Azoogleads who came forward in cooperation to help them understand the industry. They were very clear they are not raiding houses or breaking down doors or knocking on random people who are promoting ringtone offers.

They asked me to reach out to any longtime affiliates who have knowledge of how Blinko or Jamster offers have been promoted to please give them a call (850) 766-2889. Ask for either Robert Schara or Jon Gillman.

So could we see some affiliates going to jail over this? Well again at this point it is just a civil action but I suspect it could turn criminal very fast if specific people were found to be fraudulently representing offers.
Funny how all of those people who claimed I was lying about it never again IM'ed me about it or said another goddamn thing (aside for those whom were banned). No apologies, no nothing.

I think you'll find that the big-timers are going to scramble to be the helping/innocent informant in all the ringtone offer abuse in the hopes that they'll avoid prosecution when the case turns criminal for mis-representing what the consumer will get by clicking through their Ads.

Basically the first few in there to rat-out the people that were openly abusing these consumers, well, they'll get a free-pass.

Expect to see a lot of this from the big-guys soon.

Faux outrage will continue in blog posts and other media.

I know I'm slow when it comes to this drama bs 'cause I don't pay much attention to it but...come on. I don't even know you and wouldn't think or say you are lying when you posted that, I have no reason to...yet.
