So I just got spammed 4 times on the same blog I own (personal blog) by a direct competitor (who isn't ranking nearly as well as I am) on a keyword I actively target and dominate. His site flat out sucks and he didn't use a proxy.

He's clearly a beginning affiliating marketer (not that I'm a pro, but I'm getting better).

What should I do?

Back in 2001 I had a community type of site and expanded it to have a classifieds section. A competitor in my city posted a fake ad on the classified with a random persons phone number... something like, "My name is Judy call *number* and I'll suck your.... etc." I never really moderated the thing as it didn't have much action. But then got a call from the random persons parents and boyfriend about the post etc. (pissed off of course and threatening)

I went to his upstream and his host shut his site down. I then noticed that he had a plural domain name, but didn't reg the singular name, so proceeded to reg it and forward it to my site.

It was surprising that he had many prospective customers who'd actually type in the domain (singular version). They dug my site more and became my customers.

Anyway... just brought back some memories, good luck

Taking my own advice: The other day I was starting to parasite a forum post ... a member on the forum got my spam on his blog and the fucker decided to come to the thread and post it.

The dumb shit copied my OP so additional density so all is good ... in the end it won't matter once I switch the picture up with something that's a mile long.

He did piss me off enough that he's getting a steady flow of scat sites hitting his blog daily for the rest of his life ... have fun with that one douchebag.

If you feel the need to spend more time on this moron than it takes to click the 'spam' button, keep in mind that you have control over two hyperlinks that he cares about: his keyword/title, and his IP address.

Like MacG says, send his IP to some banned site, which could technically be risky so that's up to you; but the link to his title/keyword is almost too tasty to go unchanged.

Yer options:

1. Remove the hyperlink but keep the post: This will make your site more dense for his keyword.

2. Reroute the hyperlink to your money page or related: This will not fail to piss him off and he'll know what you did there.

3. Change his title/keyword to something he would NOT want to rank for: This will make him think your blog is broken and the DB is mixing up entries.


Personally I go with #2... It tells them to fuck off all by itself and at least you've built up your KW density to compete with their site if nothing else.

Consider his action a newbie mistake. He just gave you a little more information and insight into his own methods (although it doesn't sound like what either of you are doing is rocket science).

Delete the comment, ban the IP, and research his landing pages for anything he may be doing that you are not. (Or keep it open, let him continue to provide you free information).

And change your attitude, think about how an action can benefit you before you think about how it irritated you are that it happened.
