I have a lot of trouble getting to sleep because I'm always too excited about developments with my business. I'm trying to go to sleep but my head is always flowing with ideas, and then once I get too tired for ideas to pop into my head, my goals start popping into my head... and that's bad too because there's nothing NOT exciting about a ferrari f430 or a zonda.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem, It got so bad for me last year that I had to get some pills from the doctor and let me tell you thats the shit, take them 30 mintues before bed and your fucking knocked out for the next 8 hours.
But he only gave them too me when it got to the point of 3 hours per sleep a night for 6 months straight.........impossible you might say.......fucking try it.......I know the true meaning to the word insomnia. Unfortunatly after 2 months of taking them I'm no longer allowed to go near them because there super addictive but when your on them you get the best sleep you'll ever have. I'm slowly starting to get back into that crap no sleep routine again, I'm down to 5 hours of sleep per night as it is, sometimes if I"m lucky I'll get 6 hours. So to anyone thinking of getting into this business my first advice is buy a HUGE coffee pot, cause your gonna need it.

Then, the second I lay down again, I repeat the cycle. But, the solution is simple. My nightly ritual consists of a six pack of beer + 3 benadryls. Works nicely for me.

I wait till I get to my wage earning job to sleep!
Release the ideas from your brain. Put a notebook by your bed and make a new folder on your computer "Ideas". Write down the ideas. I tend to go over the same ideas with new details over and over like I'm trying to memorize it or something! Writing it down seems to help stop that and it makes "room" for fresh ideas to sprout! Praying till I fall asleep helps me also.

i used to sleep 3 hrs a night when i had to commute 2.5 hours to my job - I would catch up on the bus in the morning. After about 6 months I was pretty much a zombie during the day and was pretty unhealthy.
Now I live 30 mins from my job so I can still get 6 hours - I always tend to wake up at night and be brain dead all day. I basically drink 2-3 glasses of wine and read for 30mins before bed. Oh and if you are still in college and talking about this then wait and see how your life changes once you are out of the college bubble - I could drink until 5 am, get up for tailgates the next morning at 7 - and then drink until 5 am the next morning... then still get up at noon the next day and study. I think if I did that now I would die!

Polyphasic Sleep
Polyphasic Sleep
You basically sleep six times per day (every 4 hours) for 20-30 minutes. After a short adjustment period (4-7 days) it works very well. Check out "The Uberman Sleep Schedule" on Everything2. I first read about it on Steve Pavlinas Blog. |

jeez, guys. you really have to watch out for your health!
i mean, some of you seem to barely get at least one night a week full sleep. i am an old fart now (at least to wf standards as i am 36), but i can clearly tell you, that most of you will not make it to that age if you keep it on this way ![]() you are missing a chance to go into retrospective mode here. switch the computer off at least one hour before you go to sleep. set youselves some goals that satisfy you. goals that are reachable in a day and leave you with that warm feeling that you achieved something and that you have earned the right to go to bed now ![]() i know what i am talking about, there were times when we used to be 14,16 or 18 hours on projects at the client. but you can only keep that on for a month. and even after two weeks already you start to produce mistakes. and you can definitely not keep that on for life. what is all that freedom of work at home worth, if you can't have a life? or get a breakdown and burnout at 28? i know, i sound like some preacher, but please. i was was really shocked when i read what problems you got to get to sleep.

I have a tough time falling asleep.. But I cannot fall asleep unless the TV is on, so I try and watch something REALLY boring. Usually takes me 20 mins until I start nodding off, and then I'm out for the count. Also, I put my TV on a sleep timer so it turns everything off when I wake up, otherwise I get up with a headache. Weird right?

Awesome topic as I've been having the same damn problem. I used to sleep like a baby until I got into this 4 months ago (7+ hours of sleep per night). Now, I'm lucky if I get 4 hours. Last night I only got one hour. My wife hates me because all I do is "work."
The only thing that works for me now is Ativan and a few stiff Vodka 7's. But I'm down to one pill now so I'm like a fucking drug addict rationing it until I can get my prescription refilled. It's pathetic but what the hell are you going to do?? Like my friend always used to say...you can sleep when you die. Travis |

try this
Don't let your thoughts control you. Learn to control your thoughts.
For a few weeks I worked each night at keeping stray thoughts from popping into my head. I used the following to do so. Note that this snippet is taken from occult literture and is learned for a different purpose. However, I can tell you from experience that this will not only help you sleep but will improve your concentration when you do everyday tasks. I realize it's kind of ironic that it tells you not to give into the temptation to fall asleep but once you master it you will understand. Quote:
