in the last couple of weeks, I have received a couple of warnings at DP.

I am not a spammer, I don't insult people on forums, I try not to post rubbish and I make my living online.

Now, I don't hang out at DP a lot, but I got one warning for bumping a thread where I was looking for links and one for "posting" to a thread where the guy asked for a PM.

Fucking SUE me!

Talk about the epitome of unnecessary forum moderation.

One more reason that forums like WickedFire will continue to gain ground.

Ive been there since spring of 2005 and it started going downhill when it was flooded with spammer/noobs from indonesia and india. Used to be a pretty good forum but just so much filler that I dont have time to wade through it all.

Ive gotten 2 warnings recently for threads started in the wrong category...

One of them was a thread I started in the Google area asking about the webmaster tools, indexing on Google, etc. and the fucker moved it to Reviews>SEO and gave me a warning....

The stats on the faq page show some incredible growth, 160 new users a day. The problem is 90% of those are Indians who cant string a sentence together.

I definitely think that any quality content on DP is excruciatingly diluted by the number of non-English speaking posters making hundreds of threads asking why their Adsense accounts were banned. It's just not worth it to sift through.

I agree - the quality has been going down hill for quite a while. The pay per click and affiliate sections are completely junk. The market place needs to be cleaned up though. They special categories for directories and Myspace sites because it makes it nearly impossible to find something decent without weeding through all these shitty websites.

Just visited DP for the first time in several months and it's seriously horrible. 90% of the posters sell PR2 directory links in their sig and have a blog that is obviously just copy/pasted articles from somewhere else.

Hey, we do that too! Well, not as much, but I'm sure it will start again..

I was never a hardcore DP lurker or user really. I do like Shawn Hogan a lot and have a ton of respect for him, and he knows it. As for DP, every forum has it's bad apples, but it's a good mix of newbies, experts, and then a chock full of fuckers from every forum under the sun. They've been around for years, and will only get more and more popular, the question is, will they get more popular amongst the newbies and foreigner scammers or will better guys go back there and fix it up. I've offered to buy it from Shawn, but he made it clear that he wouldn't sell unless I was offering some insane number, like $100M, which won't happen. I respect him for it too, because I would never sell out either if I was in his place.

But seriously, every forum has it's ups and downs, and they may be having a down time now, but you never know, things on the internet change pretty quickly so it's tough to guage it. I think they may not be on top, but they will always be in the top 5.

Wow, I'm really suprised to hear such dissapointement with DP. I think Digital Point is great and I think Wicked Fire is great. They give you a HUGE marketplace for FREE. I dont think there is a bigger place you can sell sites for free. Your signiture can be huge compared to other forums.

Overmoderated? Are we talking about the same forum? DP is the most easy going, undermoderated forum around. They could actually use a good dose of more active moderators to clean up the spam (now if you said WebHostingTalk was overmoderated, I'd agree with you, ugh!)

Sure it has its share of problems but when any site get's big, these problems come. WF might have to wrestle with these problems one day too.

I look at DP as being another resource. I don't hold DP, or SP or WF to be the bible for webmasters. They all have good stuff and bad stuff. 2-3 weeks ago, I and I am sure others in this forum were wondering wtf was occuring here at WF and if time should be spent coming here at all. Last week and this week have been great here in WF and I have seen some remarkably excellent info compared to the debacle the previous weeks.

Im not gonna jump on the Indian racial thing but there seems to be a huge influx of shit posts like:

How much work will it take to get to #1 in Google for this keyword?
How much money will it cost to get #1 in Google?

All of those types of posts seem to come from people with very low post counts and are usually comprised of horrible spelling and grammar...

Im sorry, but asking people how much work and how many hours it will take to get ranked for a certain keyword is absolutely ridiculous, there are so many variables that its not possible to answer that with any certainty. Plus, you know...You can uhh... research the shit yourself, I mean, thats not against the rules or anything...

Again, how much money it will take to rank, see above...

All in all I do like DP, there is alot of good information, the marketplace is great and the programming areas are always helpful. The marketting areas can be ok as long as your prepared to wade through the large number of garbage posts and repetitive questions

I agree that we can't all speak perfect english, but the comments about almost unreadable posts on DP are valid. You get a huge number of "Thanks for great info!" posts too.

But I still visit DP occassionally, even though in some ways I feel I have outgrown it. I now know enough to spot that there is a lot of misinformation there.

You get a huge number of "Thanks for great info!" posts too. But I still visit DP occassionally, even though in some ways I feel I have outgrown it.
