Those New Yorkers don't get to have all the fun. If you're a Southern California affiliate / internet marketer I welcome you to come to the dinner I'm organizing here. Looks like it should be a good turnout, I already have the word from program managers, SEO's, publishers, emailers, and just plain marketers.

Jon was having a get together of affiliate marketers in new york, it was covered in one of his earlier posts.

I think its a great idea to meet some people and talk about some shit this way, I just wish I didn't live in a little town in North West BC, Canada.

Its a bit of a journey to new york or to cali.

Hey guys,

Actually, the inspiration was from Brook Schaff, who runs Affiliate Dinner Events. There have been a couple dinners in other cities, but for some reason Los Angeles / Orange County / San Diego haven't spoken up as an internet and affiliate marketing community. So far it looks like there will be at least 10 people coming out, and I'm sure a few more will confirm over the next two weeks.

The event is purely networking, no topics covered or anything like that. If there is a good turnout, then I'd be stoked to setup a barcamp wiki or something similar to organize future events.

Here's the deal so far...

Meetup approx 7pm

This is a mix of both publishers/marketers and program managers / service providers, so I'd suggest bring biz cards if you have them.

I cannot remember the rules about Dave & Busters under 21 policy. I don't think it's a problem before 10, but even if it is just gimme a call and I'll escort you in.

Prices at D&B are pretty good - $20-30 should get you a good meal and a drink or two.

btw traffic from LA to OC is probably going to be awful @ 7pm, but networking is the key to the goldmines in affiliate marketing!

there are random people i've met who down the road hooked up $$$ goldmines. i'm sure most of you have similar experiences.

Ha ha, but seriously, it was great to meet everyone that came out! All told we had 14 people, and not a digital camera in the house. Damn. Anyways, I'll be setting up another shinding in the near future. Yeah, I mean, I was really pleased with the turnout. It was a mixed crowd too which was great - folks from both sides of the industry. That's the best. When it's just affiliates talking to affiliates you get one side of the conversation, and same with adverts & adverts. Putting black hatters at the same table as white hatters and merchants, networks, service providers, affiliates, SM's, etc in the same place at the same time makes for some good conversation.

Definitely enjoyed Mike Stark's commentary on the evening about the transition that the big money accounts need to make. For some reason internet marketing still isn't getting it's share of the adspend, even though the numbers prove that online advertising is cost-effective.

Rumor has it there's something else planned in April. I'll dig around and see what I can come up with. Also, props to Avant & Kaveman for driving out from the SB area. Y'all are insane (in a good, affiliate way).
