Pretentious name, I know, but I wanted my 51. thread to be really cool and need all the attention I can get in order to make this work!

It's cool if it doesn't work too, as I'll be remembered (by myself, mostly) as a guy who at least tried

The idea is this: post your dearest tips here - lessons about everything and anything webmaster related you've learned - and post them one at a time.

If everyone was to do this every now and then, this thread could turn into a massive collection of good, valuable tips that we'd all benefit from.

So let's start, one tip at a time...

It takes awhile for a site to grow. If you have a site with good content, don't give up on it for at least 2 years. you will be surprised.

Take the time to figure out what tactics work for you and your site. Don't be close minded and always be willing to try something new. Of course there are things that work well and stick with them. But always test and research.

Ask yourself if you want to save a couple of bucks per month by using cheaper hosting, if that means slower speeds and bigger downtime for your sites.

Consider various sources of income for your sites. Adsense is great, but explore CPM, CPA and CoRegistration as a source of income as well. You may be limiting your earning potential if you don't.

I'm new to the game so the only thing that I can really contribute is to try not to be a "Jack of all trades" because that will leave you a master of none.

Basic knowledge in all the areas in the field are needed but don't try to master all of them at once. Take one thing at a time.

Use wisdom and know when to ignore circumstances. Milton Hershey was pennyless and was considered an irresponsible drifter w/failed businesses at 28. His family wouldn't give him a job. He eventually started another business. After several years he sold his very successful carmel business to a competitor to devote himself to a year old business originally created for the carmel business......Hershey's Chocolate.

Slow movement is better than no movement. A week with only one step a day will get you seven steps closer to your goal. No steps....at the end of the week you end up in the same place you started. 7 steps doesn't seem like much, I know, but look at the big picture. In a year you would be 364 steps closer to your goal. Don't waste time waiting for everything to be just right and fall into place and you can go a hundred steps a day because you think that's what it takes. In a few years you will still be waiting!

So how many steps closer would you NOT be after 2-3 years waiting? What if in 2-3 years everything comes together and you can take a hundred steps a day, wouldn't it be better to already be positioned closer to the goal because you took that one step every day!
