Question Best Email Client?

Suggestions? I've been using web mail forever and really need to set up something that can handle all my email addresses in one spot. What do you use / like?

God help me for saying this but the only Microsoft product I have ever been able to say is good. ( mind you not great is outlook ) Other than that everything Bill Gates has touched has been SHIT wrapped in nice gold foil. Evolution is good but only the native linux ports. Don't know and can't comment about the MAC.

Cheers.

Another vote for outlook...

The pain about it is though if you don't have it as part of your office package you end up paying about 80% of the cost of office to get it.

Windows mail is free.

another vote for thunderbird. It's got plugins for just about everything. One of my favorites allows you to trigger arbitrary actions based on rules... e.g mail comes in containing certain words, run this .exe with these params (pulled from the mail)...

Use thunderbird. Have each account in separate folders, add Lightening for tasks and calendar and you have something better than Outlook (for 90% of users).

Windows Live Mail desktop version. The only problem is that you can't add meeting requests to your calendar. Not sure why that functionality isn't included, but its great if you have multiple email accounts.

Thunderbird + Gmail with IMAP.

Why shouldn't you send emails with Thunderbird?

Also, yeah, a second request for useful apps for Thunderbird. Never tried any.

Well shit, I was hoping for some really cool mail clients that I've never heard of to play around with. I've got Win Mail on my machine and in the past never had luck with Thunderbird, so I'm biased against TBird. Someone suggested "Smarter Mail", but it looks like that's a mailserver and not an email client.

Basically, as email clients go, there's nothing really new and cool? Just stick with Win Mail or webmail, huh? Sad Mike.

I've tried this a couple of times - moving from webmail to Thunderbird. And I always go back to gmail/google apps. Things that take me 1 step in gmail take me 2-3 or more. You end up getting spoiled by how easy it is. I tried it again the past two weeks because I wanted HTML signatures with images. So I spent a lot of time trying to get Tbird working like gmail (all parts of a conversatiob being kept together, getting archive to work, etc). It never worked exactly like gmail - and then gmail goes and adds html sigs + images this week. So yesterday and today I've been back to using the web and I am blazing through my email again.

Hate google all you want. But once you get used to working and being productive in their email nothing else can really compare.

No luck with TB? The new version autoconfigures IMAP gmail accounts. All you need to provide is your email and password.

I've read the new version of Outlook 2010 is really good and that a hosted exchange 2010 account runs around $10 /month, possible option having both a client and web access. I hate that gmail doesn't allow more than 5 external pop/imap accounts to be part of the inbox which I need + the web access.

Long time tbird user here, but moving less important stuff to gmail. Would probably move everything to my g apps gmail account if they didn't snoop so.

Wow.. Eudora is still around?

and yeah.. I don't think using gmail (or docs) is a good idea given the privacy policy changes that will allow them to pool the data across all products. I've been moving everything away onto my own server and just when you think you have everything done, up pops a few more emails to the gmail.

Reason #1 - it reads Y!, G!...etc folders. Keep things organized.

What do you guys do for hosting email? DIY/run your own mailserver?

I want to get the fuck away from gmail/google apps. What else is out there? I checked out neomailbox.com, anonymousspeech.com, lavabit etc. But how is paying them any better than getting a cheap BSD VPS, minimalistic secure install and DIY? (In Panama or China or Russia if necessary).
