Read the Book "How To Be Invisible: The Essential Guide to Protecting Your Personal Privacy, Your Assets, and Your Life" 5 years back.

Since then, I have implemented a couple tips from the book:

1. All my mails (banking, checks, ebay items) go straight to my "ghost address". Basically a mom and pop mail box that goes for $10 / month that looks like an home address - not the P.O shizzle.

Ahem, even my driver license doesn't show my true home address.

2. "Anonymous" cell phone. This is done by having a pre-paid cell phone - registered with a pen name and using the ghost address.

The Benefits:

1. Privacy. Bitch can't do a reverse phone look up after I tap'd that and ran away. Likewise, annoying customers can't find out where I live.

2. Domain name and other web registrations show ghost address to prevent annoying customers contacting me or psychotic killers showing up at my door step. (You know the crazy guy you sold that ebook to ... ?)

3. Feels good man

I actually read most of it when you mentioned it awhile ago in a thread. Have no idea when or in what thread, but I do remember you mentioning it.

I read it, and it was good. Now, I just need to start putting some of the info into action.

the best part about J.J. Luna is that when I emailed him, figuring he'd never reply, he wrote me back a 3/4 page response in about 8 hours.

Considering the guy is in his 70's by my approximation his badass status went way up after that.

I recommend buying it, and supporting someone who acts like that towards his readers. I didn't ask him some bullshit "what was your inspiration/favorite color/etc" question either, his input was actually very valuable (and I would've paid for it)

Love this book. Just uploaded a pdf copy I've had for awhile, here ya go:

here is a direct pdf link to the book guys - hxxp://www[dot]ncmilitia[dot]org/pdf/HowToBeInvisible-JJLuna[dot]pdf

Have been loving this book since the original came out. I am a regular at the Q&A section of Jack's site. Some paranoid crazy people there, but most of the erroneous stuff is filtered out as is any overly heated debate -- so much useful info to be had from there.

URL? The cheapest I've seen is $19.95/mo. I'm looking for cheaper.

you don't setup things like that online, that's done in person.

find a local place you can pay for in cash and receive mail. this is all covered in the book.

using something like earth class mail does NOTHING as they have all your payment info and are forwarding this stuff to your house.

Now of course- using earth class mail for a NYC address and then forwarding to your local ghost address, well.... the fun can get laughably complicated.

The UPS store and stuff that like that often rent mail boxes that are not PO boxes. I had one in Minneapolis when I was there but it was pretty expensive.

You gotta look around for good mbox places. I found one in a Chineese neighbourhood, inside a pharmacy. It's listed in Yellow Pages, but not really anywhere else. Google street view shows just a store front, and it has a second floor, so might easily look like an office on the 2nd floor. They allow "suite" prefix, so it's all good. In fact on Canadian addresses, suite part is not even necessary. You can write an address like this:

123-456 Main Street

Where 123 is a suite #, and 456 is a street number, and that's a valid address per Canada Post address writing guidelines.

ups box ftw... you might even be able to use the addy on your dl. ;)

Traffic stops can sometimes be interesting however if one's not cautious with their language.

I'm pretty sure UPS is instructed to reject such mail as it is illegal. At least that is the case in Canada. You might get luckier with a smaller provider.

Sweet, thanks. I recommend EVERYONE implement the tips and get some privacy - it can literally save your life. (Disgruntle employee can't stab you in the face if he doesn't know where you live ...)

I read The Book of Five Rings years ago for martial arts training. You are only the second person that I have ever heard mention it.
Thanks for bringing it up. I downloaded it and the audio book and started reading/listening to it today.

Holy shit, is it really the case that people on this forum haven't read Musashi? I read The Book of Five Rings when I was in high school, for a project on Japanese corporate culture and the rise of the "lifeboat economy" there in the 1970s and '80s. Seriously interesting stuff.

Read: Book of 5 Rings Online

"The Second - Tai No Sen

When the enemy attacks, remain undisturbed but feign weakness. As the enemy reaches you, suddenly move away indicating that you intend to jump aside, then dash in attacking strongly as soon as you see the enemy relax. This is one way.

Or, as the enemy attacks, attack more strongly, taking advantage of the resulting disorder in his timing to win."

I actually got one of my life changing principles from Book of Five Rings.

"Do nothing that is of no use"

For some reason that quote hit me so hard that I dropped all online games (where I was spending a shitload of my time), ditched my TV, and drastically cut back on movies and even music (I usually listen to audio books about success, money, etc instead).

I wouldn't be nearly as successful as I am now if I hadn't read that book.
