So I saw thread a while back and decided to finally get a juicer. I bought a Breville and started today with some celery, carrots, and apples. I used it for 2 meals today and am feeling pretty good. I'm definitely gonna stick with it. I plan on doing it for at least 10 days. Still gotta read up more on some good combos, but lschimdts post was pretty awesome.

I love my Blendtec. Picked it up from Costco and came with an extra jar for about $400 total.

Use both. I now have a Blendtec and a Breville. A quart of water, stalk of Kale, and three bananas was awesome in the Blendtec. Breville, I use various recipes and veggie scraps from my wife's previous dinner. Does the job. I feel fantastic.

I def. like the idea of using both (even though I currently don't do that). My ideal setup personally is having a high end masticating juicer and also a high end blender -- then a legit heavy PSI press for the pulp.

I've been thinking about getting a Vitamix which is the same thing they use at Jamba Juice. The nice thing about it is you don't throw away all the pulp so you're still getting all the fiber from the fruits and vegetables. Anyone tried it?

Bought one for mom. She uses it almost everyday and swears by it.

I've tried some juice mixes, it turns out to be too viiscous for my taste. I use a strainer after to make the juice easier to drink.

First half of this whole thread is about Vitamix basically if I remember correctly. They're def better since you don't "waste" as much of the produce, for sure.

Any updates from people posting awhile back on how their doing with their juicers? Its got me interested, but the amount of shit you have to put in just to get one day serving is pretty crazy and the amount of sugar you consumer in a short period can't be good. Still would be interesting to try it out if everyones having good results although I might just stick with a blender because I haven't shat a big black baby in a long time so i need to stretch out my anus for summer time.

Well according to the recommended diet you're supposed to eat 25+ fruits and veggies everyday, which is impractical to eat whole. If sugar is a concern, how about looking up juices for diabetics? There are several books on the subject. My father is diabetic and since I told him about this he's got himself a juicer and juices bitter-gourds/melons, greens, eggplant and believe it or not, his blood-sugar levels etc are practically "cured" now in a period of 2-3 months.

For me I've been slacking off because I sold my car (want to get out of this shithole country long term) so I haven't been going to swim or to the gym and just holed up at home all day most days eating pizza and greasy Punjabi & Chinese takeaway. The motivation to juice comes a lot easier if you're working out and have that endorphin rush... Sadly I'm on more redbull and crappy coffee now than juice. But I'll definitely get back on track in a couple of weeks...

As for results they were very significant & positive in my case. I have/had a fatty liver, don't give a fuck about doctor's advise and still drink when I want to (though almost never binge haha) and eat meat everyday in all my meals, but the blood tests and scans after a month (yes, one month) of juicing and good exercise = my liver's fixed and in top shape

It's becoming slightly addictive to be honest. After about 2 days without juice I can start to feel a change towards the sluggish side and CRAVE my juice.

MUST HAVE MORE JUICE!!!!

Funny thing is that my neighbors etc. all started juicing now. Everyone loves it so far.... It's becoming almost like a fad diet....

Check back in 6 months...

For those of you that blend, you might like this facebook page for ideas/recipes....

You do end up losing a lot of the fiber from the fruit when you juice as opposed to using a blender.

Not to mention one less appliance on the counter

What finally got me to go though with it was Forks over Knives -> Forks over Knives which is basically a vegan documentary. After this movie and the other stuff I have seen in the last month. Ive decided to start juicing and try a 95% vegan diet for the new year.

Shit like "In the US 1 in 2 Men will get some form of cancer" and by 2020 70+% of the population will be overweight etc etc etc. I have seen all kinds of stats in various shows and readings have finally convinced me to change shit up. Scary shit.

So all you juicing guys.. how about some updates? How was your detox? Also go on Netflix or whatever and check out Forks over Knives its very well done.

I have a cheap ass black and decker $50 juicer but it's better than nothing.

What's wrong with meat?

Also, anyone read about ideal diets specific to blood type? Blood types are a major superstition in Japan. But there may be something to the diet part of it. I'm A+ and apparently this is from the genetic lineage of modern humans (more advanced on the evolutionary scale) after the discovery of agriculture = grain and crop based diet is recommended for this blood type. Goes against all the paleo diet wisdom.

Also I started making soups with fresh veggies. Boil the ones that need to be softened then puree them in a processor/blender. That's basically all there is to it, tastes pretty good. Today I made a soup of: 6 tomatoes, 1 zuchini, 1 carrot, 1 eggplant, 1 potato, peppers, garlic, one chicken breast = pureed everything and boiled it again, added some salt and oats- tasted fucking fine.

You don't need animal protein at all, thought this was common knowledge actually. Animal protein is what kills people basically. Is this really the first time you've heard this?

Grains aren't really good for people either, particularly wheat. We've only been eating wheat for ~12,000 years and we consume more of it now than ever and our bodies can't really handle it. Causes major problems.

We really didn't evolve to eat most grains since we've only been growing them for a short period of time, relative to how long we've existed.

Seriously, why? And what are the options if one were to completely stop eating meat and grains? Fruits and soy chunks can get bland after a few days.

I don't know what you're asking "why?" to exactly. I agree fruits and tofu can get bland but if you check out even just one kind of cuisine like Thai or Indian food you can eat an animal protein free diet really easily and have a shit ton of options to choose from.

Tons of cultures have literally thousands upon thousands of ways to cook veggies and protein that taste incredible. It's true foods like Indian rely on dairy a bit but there are also tons of ways to eat completely animal protein free (which I don't even do myself as much as I should, I still eat dairy a few times a week but when I don't I feel 10x better in every possible way).

The biggest trouble with a 100% animal protein diet is you start to crave the fat/protein that usually comes with dairy, but there are ways around this.

Wouldn't you be able to get all your protein from a protein shake each day.

I've been reading and seeing in a lot of videos that the "your body can only absorb 30g of protein and the rest is waste" is not true.

30g protein myth - Google Search

Veggie / Juice diet + Protein shake that has all your protein for that day = win?

Why as to why is animal protein deadly? What's the harm in organic/farm grown poultry and cattle?

funny you bring that up. I was in a debate on THIS very topic with some guy the other day.

Logic tells me organic/grassfed/non gmo cattle/poultry can't be deadly.

It isn't the protein itself but when you're relying on meat/dairy for your protein you're consuming more protein than you need and more cholesterol than you need among other things. More of that = shittier health overall, leading to death basically. Watch "The Last Heart Attack" about Bill Clinton going vegan, answers a lot of the details about this IIRC. (Found it: http://www.cnn.com/video/?/video/pod...art.attack.cnn )

Yeah this is correct. Body builders need 1g of protein per 1 kg of body weight. Most Americans eat a body builders amount of protein per day and just sit on their asses doing nothing.

I've read recently too this perception in the body building community is changing and they think the amount of protein needed, even for a body builder, is significantly lower.

Not all amino acids that make protein are equal. The argument about "drink a protein shake and avoid cholesterol" applies in reverse as well- you're missing out on a lot of vitamins, good fats and other positive things which are present in whole food. Same as juicing vs eating an MV.

It's easier said than done about getting protein from non animal sources. I was born in a Hindu Brahmin family and was fed a vegetarian diet till age 11. I was a skinny malnutritioned kid and never really gained muscle mass or attained peak fitness until I started eating meat. I have a cousin about the same age as I am who is a vegetarian and he is still skinny and undernourished. Raising children on a vegetarian diet should be criminalized- it is a form of child abuse.

Any good protein shake would contain at least 8 of the amino acids necessary to form a complete protein, so yes, it's all you need for protein. As for missing out on other minerals by drinking a protein shake, that doesn't really make sense--you drink a protein shake to get protein, that's it. You get everything else through vegetables/fruit/etc.

As for raising kids vegetarian, you're making some big generalizations. Whoever raised you simply didn't understand nutrition. There are many vegan/vegetarian body builders, so obviously any problems you had putting on mass were due to your ignorance of nutrition.

Eat more calories than you burn = put on mass. Eat enough protein while tearing muscle fibers and causing hypertrophy = you gain muscle.

I'm having a hard time finding a definitive answer for this. Iron deficiency and B12 problems if you don't eat accordingly without meat but...

1. It just seems harder to get Iron, protein, B12 without meat, not impossible, so why exactly do we need meat?

2. Animal protein and meat seems to be linked to a lot of problems. There seems to be a bias on meat because it is apart of our lives but I'm still not seeing "You are getting X from meat that you can't get from some plant/veggie that you need to live."

If it's just a convenience since meat has all this stuff and tastes good but at what cost?

On the other hand they'll probably have the cure for all the cancers in 50-60 years so fuck it right?

Who Are the Vegetarian, Semi-Vegetarian, and Vegan MMA Fighters?

For those of you who follow MMA (I don’t), here are the fighters mentioned in the article… (and I imagine there may be more):
  • Jon Fitch (“considered by most either the No. 2 or No. 3 welterweight in the world”)
  • Jake Shields (“the next challenger for Georges St. Pierre’s welterweight title” — this April 30th fight has sold out the 55,000-seat Rogers Centre in Toronto)
  • Nick Diaz (“Strikeforce welterweight champion”)
  • Nate Diaz (.. Nick’s younger brother)
  • Mac Danzig (“Season 6 winner of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ as a welterweight”)

Do you have a link or recipe for making that sort of protein shake.

I'm still having a hard time finding something that says "If you don't eat meat you are going to fuck this, this, and this up."

That's because it isn't even something that's debated by anyone who understands nutrition, obviously. More and more athletes are going vegan for just this reason.

You won't find reputable data saying avoiding meat will cause problems because there isn't any--aside from cases of malnutrition which occurs when people don't know what the hell they're doing.

As for the protein, just get a soy protein mix--soy is a complete protein on its own. You could even just pick up unsweetened soy milk and drink 2-3 glasses a day for protein.

Actually seems to be the exact opposite in here. Just for the record I'm referencing my 20+ years of research/learning and 3 years of vegetarian body building, plus having a relatively large network of friends/family who are vegetarian + vegan athletes/body builders some of which were born and raised that way.

And ultimately, I don't care at all who eats what, doesn't affect me at all--but facts are facts and need to be properly represented IMO.

I wonder how many of them started out vegetarian as kids. Probably none of them.

Anemia is on the rise in India, says NFHS report - Express India

In any blood collection/donation program in an Indian college or university, most vegetarians' blood is not accepted because their hemoglobin levels are too low.

Eric--

How'd you find bulking as a vegetarian? I'm rehabbing a shoulder injury and have dropped almost 40lbs since I stopped being able to lift. Getting back slowly, but I've been giving thought to trying a vegetarian diet for a month.

At the time I was dirty bulking basically, eating anything I could. Mostly because I had to but if I were to get back into shape again, and I plan on it, I'll be going way cleaner for cardiovascular reasons. It'll be harder to do but it's worth it IMO.

For vegetarians there are still a lot of calorie dense, high protein options though, slightly more difficult for vegans. I'd definitely recommend going vegetarian and body building though, it's good shit.

Yeah no way I'm making the vegan leap, at least not yet. Dating 2 vegan chicks at the moment who I'm sure would help me with a diet plan though, and I'm sure they'd be happy to have me stop picking on them about not eating animals. Noticed in the last year that my body reacts VERY very poorly to beef protein and I rarely cook fish at home so the only real sacrifice would be giving up chicken. I think I can live with the change in diet, but I'm 6'5 so I need to pack on a LOT of weight for it to show. Haven't seen many HUGE dudes at the gym walking around pounding shakers of almond milk and tempeh.

ITT bunch of guys who juice carrots, apples and other sugary shit combined with idiots who now call those who eat meat & veg "semi vegan" (it's called a balanced diet you fat fucks).

Go juice your hamburgers and be done with it.

After reading this thread I really feel like buying a juicer but I'm not sure which one I should take.
Seems like Breville is pretty solid! Anything better in this price range? ($200-$400)

Just juiced a bunch of random things, cucumber, carrots, tangerine, celery, onion, greens.

Onion = so much after taste haha

Anyone else just gulping it down and not trying to drink or sip?

I think the Omega VRT350 in a previous post made better juice than the Breville.

Amazon Amazon

I still prefer my Blendtec.

Try putting the onion juice on toast or using it as a dip. Tastes amazing.
